View sticky section of this forum section. Go to unabomber's manifesto, read section about buying a used subaru/car. Very useful, the manifesto is.

One note. If you buy anything before 08+, be ready to drop plenty of maintenance money to make sure its all done (timing belt, plugs etc) O and def look at sti rather than wrx depending on your power/torque goals. Thanks for your service!

To be honest if you don't care about styling (as you are ok with 06 or 04 which are completely different body styles) then I would say get an 05 or 07. THe '05 is considered the epitome of STiness(Best year IMHO). The 07 over the 06 for the longer gear set. Just my .02

Freep,
The longer gear set could be tweaked, but the style,i may have gotten my years mixed up.

One thing to consider is that the 2004 was a different bolt pattern (5X100 as opposed to 5X114.3 for every year since) And correct me if I'm wrong but they were stouter hubs as well)

I would suggest an '05 or '06. I'm sure this is a highly debated topic but I bet your research would find that '07s were more prone to ringland issues and had poor factory tunes as compared to the 06's. 2005's seem to be pretty solid overall from what I recall, but I prefer (and to each his/her own) the styling of the hawkeye generation (06-07).

Wait and find the right one, they are commonly abused, the less mods there are, the better off you'll be.

I had an 06 so I'm partial to the hawkeyes.

You're looking at the wrong car if you just want to do highway pulls against a 5.0l v8
