Default hks downpipe sound with stock sti exhaust.

how much will i hear? my friend is getting the hook up with a tune for me and i think a free hks down pipe.. so seriously-- how much louder will this be over stock? and the down pipe is 3 inches will i have any issues bolting up to the stock exhaust? i want this to be as quiet as possible. i DO NOT LIKE loud cars or obviously sounding exhast. i was thinkin of just gutting the first cat and selling the DP... but who knows.

I wouldn't say its going to be generally loud, but you will hear a good increase in tone. It will be a good bit deeper, and you will hear the turbo spool more.

I would say go for it, its not going to be loud enough to pull great attention or be annoying.

you may have some leak issues at the dp to resonator pipe. hks is 3" flat flange. it will fit/bolt on, etc. but less than optial cause the pipe is designed for a donut gasket.

I'm running the exact same setup. It sounds louder than w/ the stock WRX catback, but it's much quieter than my Magnaflow catback. It sounds good from behind but you can't hear too much exhaust from inside. It's nice to have a fairly quiet car and not give up too much power.

I would go with a bellmouth downpipe.

There's a fairly small difference between bellmouth and blank plate and I've never had any problems w/ it and it's cheap.
