Default 2017 Cadillac XT5

Quote:
We’re less than a day from finding out all the details about the 2017 Cadillac XT5. So we’ve collected all that we know (or think we know) thus far about the upcoming crossover. Mind you, most of what you will see below is speculative and has not been confirmed by GM nor Cadillac. Either way, without further ado, here’s what we expect from the Cadillac XT5:

All-new midsize crossover with two rows of seating for five occupants to replace the SRX.

Cadillac’s latest Art & Science design philosophies outside and in, featuring roughly the same exterior dimensions as the outgoing, second-generation Cadillac SRX while being more space efficient on the inside
Powered by GM’s 2.0L Turbocharged I4 LTG engine making about 250 horsepower. The 3.6L V6 LGX will be the optional engine making roughly 300 horses. All engines will be mated to a new 8-speed transmission (transaxle) sending power the front wheels by default, and to all four wheels as an option. The AWD system is expected to be an advanced Haldex unit capable of distributing power front-back and left-right.

Be joined by a more sporty XT5 V-Sport is a likely possibility for later model years. The more sporty variant will likely be powered by GM’s 3.0L Twin-Turbo V6 LGW engine making 350 horses. A full-out XT5-V is not in the cards.
Based on the short (regular) wheelbase of GM’s new, front-drive, transverse-engined C1XX platform shared with the next-generation GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, and Chevrolet Traverse. The new C1XX architecture is expected to deliver many improvements in ride & handling, NVH, and vehicle weight, enabling the XT5 to be lighter than the outgoing SRX by several hundred pounds.

Featuring the latest technology that has some describing it as “a computer on wheels“, possibly including Super Cruise autonomous driving features
Debuting on November 9th, 2015 at the 2015 Dubai International Motor Show and making North American debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show later that month.

Launching in Cadillac’s current global markets of North America, China, Middle East, Korea, Japan, and Europe in the second half of 2016.

makes sense that they would replace the SRX with a FWD based platform.

They are just carrying on with what the SRX was. It just a new platform. SRX was Theta/Epsilon. C1 platform replaces the old Theta and Lambda and offers short and long wheelbase options. It's a FWD based platform with an available active AWD system. SRX used a BorgWarner/Haldex coupling. XT5 uses GKN hardware (like the Buick Envision in China) and adds a disconnecting PTU (like the Rover Evoque). I worked on this one for a couple years before getting moved to our Ford programs. Nice to see it finally getting revealed. We have one in our vehicle garage, but it still has camo on it. This is the first time I've actually seen what they look like without camo. Not too bad.

ah I forgot it was already FWD. 1st gen wasn't, as you could get it with a NorthStar.

this is what the market is going towards, so it makes sense. More fuel efficiency and more car like.

One of these with the ATS-V engine would be fun to go to Starbucks and take the kids to (soccer) practice.

Yup. Government says to get better fuel economy, so everyone is going toward FWD based architecture and adding new tricks to improve fuel economy further.
