Default New member and new BRZ

I've been wanting to join this forum for years, but never owned a Subaru before! I have owned a ton of cars, and many of you may notice my name from other forums over the years...many past Celica's, a G35 Coupe, Lexus IS, Genesis Coupe, Prelude's, Civic's, etc.

I had put a deposit down on a satin white pearl BRZ Limited last month, and really wasn't expecting it until the spring...looong damn wait! However, I happen to be looking around at dealer sites this morning and noticed the exact same model I had ordered was listed for sale.

Thinking it was probaby a sales ploy to get people calling, well I did just that. BUT it actually was there! Had just arrived and the soon to be owner just backed out of the deal (said it was too small when he saw it...?? Guess he didn't do much research about the car before hand). Anyhow, I drove about 1.5 hours and boom I will be picking it up next Saturday! Very excited.

Off topic, but I used to be a project manager for DENSO and always loved the stuff we were supporting Subaru with. Finally happy to be part of the family!

Oh nice! Pics as soon as you can! Denso, eh? So you know that they helped make some parts for the BRZ/GT-86/FR-S, right?

Yes I do know that. I actually met a few of the engineers when they were in NA a few years into development of the FT86 project. Many of them I had worked on other projects before, so it was pretty cool picking their brains so early on (this was about 3 years ago).

Oh yeah? Can you tell us anything about their thoughts on the FT-86 project? Like goals, execution, etc?

Unfortunately even though I'm not with the company anymore, I am bound by confidentiality agreements (with DENSO and the clients). I got my wrist slapped a few years back, for posting my opinion on the Acura ZDX (a vehicle I worked on in pre-dev phases).

Oh and I forgot to mention what I traded in for the BRZ...a 2011 Volkswagen GTI. Will miss the turbo and very good build quality, but that's about it.

after months of dealer screw ups I finally picked up my Galaxy blue LTD. Reminds me of what an 80s Porsche drove like. Nice and organic

It does feel very organic and a living part of you while you drive. Hard to explain to anyone who hasn't driven one yet. Every input is responded with that exact response from the car. I didn't get as much of that from the FR-S though...mainly the suspension set-up felt a little unsure in my hands. Glad I took my deposit off the FR-S a while back.

FWIW, I think the BRZ's interior build quality might be the best I've personally seen in a Subaru, certainly on par if not slightly below that of a VW.

I would say it's definitely pretty nice, but also definitely below the GTI anyway in terms of quality. I have a 2011 GTI and it's loaded. Quality of finishes and leather, are higher than even the 08 Lexus IS I had. Not a single rattle, everything is soft touch, and the leather quality is amazing. Build quality is something I will miss coming from the GTI, but I won't miss the little quirky electronic issues they have (CEL coming on for no reason, stereo stops working for no reason, passenger side window would roll down on it's own once in a while...very wierd).

Welcome. I'm always late to the party on this forum since it's relatively dead compared to FT86...though I agree about the moderation there being odd to say the least.

The seats are highly inspirational towards my goal of losing my love handles before autox season starts in Spring of 2013.

Finally picked it up today.

Can't wait for this thing to be broken in to really have some fun (although winter tires/rims are going on Monday, so this will probably have to wait until the spring). Loved every second of the few hour drive back from London this morning...I don't think I have ever been so happy to see traffic in my life!

That's a beauty of a car... truth be told, I was actually shopping for this model when I stopped by the dealership (this was in Sept), but was told that there would be a years-long wait for it (yes, as in multiple years - although I suspected at the time he was exaggerating). Instead, I ended up with an new-model-year Impreza that apparently had no changes from the previous model year.

Having said that, I don't mind waiting a couple of years for the engineers to work out the bugs in any new model...

In any case, have fun with the car! It looks pretty awesome.

Thanks guys. I'm loving this car...sucks that I only got 3 days of driving before the mushy winter tires went on.

Did dealer install an aftermarket exhaust or tips?

No, they are the JDM tips. I ordered them from Carson Toyota, and installed them and the shark fin antennae when I picked up the car.

I'm assuming that you had them send the car out for the tint,or did he go to the dealership?

It was sent out for the tint, prior to me picking it up.

Received my JPM Coachworks alcantara gauge cluster hood today. Installed in less than 2 minutes, and it looks awesome! Really nice match to the BRZ Limited alcantara and red stitching.

And added Zetaproducts custom armrest (a must for the BRZ in my opinion).

Since I wear polarized lenses I don't get much glare on the windshield; you getting less glare from the hood with this item? I think it's great for aesthetic, but if it's functional (even though not for me with my fancy shmancy glasses) I'll move it up the list.
