i too also have an 06 sti....just purchased yesterday as a matter of fact....the dealer only gave me a key with NO remote....they said thats how THEY got it...anyways, i drove the car home, locked it manually, (from switch on inside of door)....went back out to the car to unlock it MANUALLY with the key, obviously because there is NO remote....i open the door and the alarms starts honking....what do i do?...im not really in the mood to spend MORE money and buy a NEW remote just yet, but is there a way to disarm the ENTIRE system and just use the key to lock and unlock withOUT the alarm going off???....a fuse or relay i can just disconnect temporarily??....thanks.

Ask them if they will throw a remote in the deal. Tell them the alarm keeps going off and you need one. If they won't do it, buy one and program it. To stop the alarm from going off after you open the door, turn the key in the ignition 3 times. It won't fix the issue, but you won't have to wait for it to stop going off. |

The button under the dash on your vehicle is used to program your remote. I forget exactly, but you need to press and hold that button until the locks start moving, then press and hold a button on the remote. (I forget how to do this one)

I have an 07 Impreza but I can't get it to program a remote.
I open the door, get in, close the door, open it and close it again, and turn the key from lock to on 10 times within 15 seconds. It says there should be 1 electronic tone after it, but all I get is the seatbelt alarm chime 6 times then it stops (the seatbelt alarm was programmed to do this). I have no idea why it isn't working and I'm starting to get annoyed. If I turn the key from lock to on it chimes every time (once again...because theres no seatbelt). Why isn't this working? Should it end on lock or on? Do I need to buckle up? Should there be a beep after every key turn, or only after the 10th time? Should I go as fast as I can? 2. Is it in valet mode? (does the alarm go off if you open the door with the key) 3. Try cycling the key an extra time or two, and make sure you are going to the point just before the engine starts. Remember to open and close the door between each 'mess up' |

RexyGirl,
Thanks again for your instructions. Picked up an extra FOB at the local dealer last week and tried to program using the instructions from the cars101 website. Ended up de-programming my own FOB. Used your instructions and was able to reprogram mine and program the extra one in about two minutes. That was great! |

Do you have to stand on one foot and pat your head while performing these steps? Think they could make it any harder?

I agree....the process for the new remotes in a pain. But the older remotes are not bad once you have the hang of it. Usually I can program one in 30 seconds or less.

It's really weird that your remote opens both vehicle, but it could also be a good thing. No need for extra remotes |

Does anyone know anything about troubleshooting the remote/keyless system? Mine has developed a short or something and is now posessed. Here's what's going on:
Don't know if it's related, but I went to the DIY carwash and sprayed my 01 Forester down. A couple of minutes later I was driving and the door locks randomly unlocked simultaneously. I pulled over and tried locking the doors with the remote. They all lock but then immediately unlock again, but the alarm stays on thus triggering if I open the door. I thought maybe there was something wrong with the passenger rear door lock (or actuator I guess) because that door is a bit creased from sideswiping a tree (yeah....). I drove the car home then manually locked that door and closed it. The keyless system seemed to start working fine again (except that door was now staying locked...). Since then, it's now gotten worse, the locks are insistant on staying open. Neither lock switch on the front doors does anything at all, the remote will briefly lock the doors only for them to unlock again and they keep clicking repeatedly. Sorry about the long post... As the doors repeatedly try to unlock there's also a loud clicking coming from near the fusebox under the dash (relay?). The last tidbit I can think of is recently that rear passenger door actuator has been making a whining sound right after locking the doors. I tried disconnecting the harness and from the actuator using the remote but the symptoms remain the same. Any help is greatly appreciated! I am now driving with the keyless fuse pulled and have to lock/unlock 5 doors manually |
