Default Ultra high summer VS Ultra high All season

Hello,

I`m looking for the BEST tires for my 99 Impreza,

Size: 205/45/17
( i`m afraid for going 215/45/17 because transmission duty)

What is the handling difference in DRY condition,
between:
ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE SUMMER

and

ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE ALL - SEASONS.

And which tire i can get in this size ??

Thanks,
Yossi Hershcu

even high performance all seasons are kinda mediocre.. all seasons are driven all yr round and do not excel in any one specific area

Choosing tires is a tricky business. Not only is there a slew of brands and models out there, but tires are further divided along performance and weather lines. So which will work best for you?

We're here to help. In this installment of our ongoing tire tests, we investigated the performance differences among three types of tires - snow tires, high-performance tires that promise the best traction in warm-weather conditions, and all-season tires....

Pick the tires you want and read reviews on them. Those categories don't really mean squat and would just be a vague classification and/or marketing gimmick.

Notice the OP's location? In other part of world, GC8 comes w/ 205/50-16 stock size (I believe only U.S. got 205/55-16).

What's available in U.S. may NOT available in where you live, so check your local tire specialists. If you want best handling tire in dry, why would you want ALL-SEASON tire? Summer tire FTW!!!

Thats correct, the GC8 99 GT JDM SPEC
Comes originally with 205/50/16

So which tire do you recommend ?
FOR MAX PERFORMANCE ?

It doesn't rain in israel very much does it?

Get the summers then! They are good for LIGHT rain I believe.

They don't work very well in the cold though.
But why matter? You live in a dry hot area.

oh boy

'summer' tires can be VERY good in the wet, depending on the design of the tread and its compound....better than any but the best all season tire
There are 'wet biased' and 'dry biased' 'summer' tires available

also......it can get VERY cold in the desert in the winter and at night and most 'summer' tires are no good below ~45°F

Having used both UHP AS tires and UHP Summer tires, there's absolutely no comparison. The UHP Summer tires are going to be so much better than the UHP AS tires, you won't believe it.

However, what Scotty just said is VERY important. I know nothing about your climate. If you see temperatures below 45 Fahrenheit/7 Celsius, you can't get by on just Summer tires. Even worse, if you see temperatures higher than about 60 F/15C during the day and lower that 45F/7C during the night for a large portion of the year, you may have no choice other than to use an All-Season tire due to the AS tire's ability to cope with a larger temperature range.
