Default Want to get an update on the TXS Stage 4 guys..

how is your car doing ? :-)

did you changed your Unichip to a UTEC ? How was it ?

and

Is your car a daily driver ?

and

how is the clutch / transmission holding up ?

I'm asking this since Stage 4 is very interesting, But I'm afraid the stock clutch won't live very long, under normal driving of course.

then, I'll have 2 choices,

1- change it for a better one. hello transmission problem.
or
2- simply replace it,..every now and then.

Thanks

Sam

Your transmission and clutch should hold up fine (mine has)....if you don't abuse it. I had my TXS stage 4 for about 6,000 miles and everything went dandy! Drivability was perfect.

Stage 4, 15k miles on my WRX.

Car runs great. Its my daily driver/weekend drag racer.
12.7 @ 108.6 mph

I have over 100+ runs down the track. Still on the stock clutch and tranny.

By the way I use an off the shelf Stage 4 Unichip with race pipe, and XS TMIC.

I have had TXS Stg4 for 4-5k miles so far and everything has been good. The transmission holds up fine.

The difference will be how well the car is maintained and driven.

This car is my daily driver for now. I am using a UniChip but switching over to Link.

I have I guess what you would call a stage IV +.

Utec
TXS TMIC
Walboro pump
Turbo back

Then my + stage parts
PE 650 injectors
PE 1820 turbo
Perrin fuel rails with -6AN fitings through out
Canton Meca fuel filter
SX FPR
GT Spec Headers with up pipe
and some other odds and ends here and there

Car holds up great. I use it as the daily driver, car has 5500 miles on it, 4K when everything installed. Runs around on 290 whp every day. If I ever get a hold of C16 then 340 whp.

Car never skips a beat. Runs great. Had dyno tuned by Phil and Nathan. 2 thumbs up.

As for Uni vs. Utec, make the switch. You will be very satisfied. Your 1/4 mile times will make a hefty jump, based off of others results.

Stage IV w/ VF34 here. I do a lot of commuting (10k miles on my '03) I sit a lot in Chicago traffic and I've never had a problem. Under normal driving, the car drives just like stock. If you don't beat the hell out of it, the car should hold up fine. Just watch the 1-2 shifts, don't powershift or you'll snap 2nd like a few people did.

I have had my stage IV + for over 25,000 plus and no worries. Dug E Fresh and I just did another compression check and all cylinders check out 150 plus and a +or- of 2, so all cylinders are pretty close. My car has 45,325 miles I have used stage1,2,4+ since 4,000 miles. I now use the Utec and run only 100 octane sunoco.( i don't drive my car to work anymore too many miles.) I have run a 12.86 @ 108.28 with a 1.98 0-60 ft ( don't ask me about launch techniques ) I have replaced the tranny once so far, do not bang gears and you will be fine. Thanks Michael

I have stage 4 plus:

Pe1820
PE210 pump
vishnu rails
Dual feed FPR
STI IC
Zero sports intake pipe
Prova duct
BPM GT
Perrin upipe
PWR radiator
Canton mecca Oil filter.
ect...ect..ect...

Oh and a 50-70 shot of nitrous depending on how I jet it.

The car has had a big turbo on it (vf22 or larger) since about 5k miles. Drag raced over 100 passes. Including 4 or 5 road races. The car has 28,000 on it now and I Just drove it into work this morning. Stock clutch and stock trans. Best pass is 11.82@ 117mph on the bottle and 12.2 off.

I switched from a unichop to a Utec. Difference is night and day. Single best thing I have done to the car. The utec made the car enjoyable again. The car was running 12.6's @ 109 mph with the unichip. I tossed in the utec and did some tuning. 12.2 @ 112.5 mph. A remarkable difference in power. Probably 40-50hp on my setup. Since the utec I have not used the nitrous because I am afraid to. The car is running so strong I dont want to mess up a good thing..

Stock clutches are great. My stock clutch has been a real trooper. The only time it really slips is running Race gas big boost and big nitrous shot. Probably around 450-475 crank hp. Even then it just smells a bit. At 28k its tattered and the pedal is stiff from the disk being thin. If your stock clutch toasts with stage 4 you where probably the leading cause of the failure. Clutches are $400-$600 bucks. Figure $400 to install it.

Oh and dont let the stories of broken trannies scare you away from this kind of power. As many have said before its all in how you drive the car. Plus, Trannies are $1200 bucks. If you mess up and break it just "thow it in the gutta and go buy anotha"

Mine is a daily driver. Had Stage 4 since last April (Stage 1 and 2 before that).

Switched to the UTEC in early October. It is 100% better, more power, very consistent and when it is cold the car will actually start on the first try. The knock protection and light is great too.

Since switching to the UTEC I have felt the clutch slip a little under WOT acelleration but I expected that based on a discussion with Phil. If the clutch ever goes out I will just replace it with another stock one.

Though I have not had any high EGT or det problems I will be putting on a set of Perrin fuel rails and possibly a differnt IC (TXS top or APS D/R 500 front) this spring just for safety.
