Default Carlisle Import Show - May 18th - 20th 2012

So how hard would it be to organize a meet at the Carlisle event next year?

I've been going to the import show the past couple years in support of my brother's vintage SAAB. But I feel that there needs to be some more Subie love. I happened to take my STI to the show, and since it was clean, I entered it. I think there were only 4 or 5 of us. I'm sure with a little effort, we could get a meet together that would rival the number of SAABs and other big clubs. Could be a great party.

My STI is bone stock (but very low miles) and I couldn't believe how many people were looking at the car and asking questions. I'm sure with a couple hundred Subies in a bunch, would be a cool site.

Does anyone have experience in putting something like this together?

My buddy and I planned on going. If we could get a group that'd be even better.

I've been going to Carlisle Import for 15+ years with my Volvo. I camp out for the full weekend and we have a HUGE party with 2 or 3 tents. Volvo are usually have the largest amount of cars, but Saab has the largest amount registered under one club "Saabs at Carlisle", where Volvo is split up between 3 clubs but still come in second.

I find it weird how Subaru guys only show up at tuner show, Performance and Style, it used to be called Power Jam. I've been to the Power Jam when it was part of the Import show but from what I've seen the P&S show isn't as organized as the Import show.

If you want to beat the Saab club you'll have to show up with more the 225+ cars. The organizing bit is going to be a bit tough, you'd need a club to sponsor and pay for a get a tent, which you'll need for when or if it rains... You could contact Carlisle to find out the details, but it shouldn't be to hard to set up. I do think it will be hard to beat any of the Swedes in amount of attendees especially the first year...

I could bring a handful possibly with enough notice and of course if this gets organized. But I could possibly be in for 5 or so subarus

I know I would be able to bring 2 STIs and a Spec B.

I think I heard that Carlisle provided the tent for SAAB because of the number of cars coming.

I don't mind calling Carlisle and getting some info.

Has anybody done this before? Don't want to reinvent the wheel or step on anyone's toes if it's already in the works.

I've been going since late 80s or very early 90s. Usually show something and have also been a vendor. Seems the internet has hurt the vendor field as its easier advertising parts online and shipping them than hauling a truckload of parts to sell as a vendor which everyone did in the good ole days.

Doubtful anyone has ever attempted organizing a Subie club meet there, at least since Power Jam was part of it. Go for it.

Carlisle rents out tents to the clubs, they set them up too. For the Saab guys, the club is "Saabs at Carlisle", for the Volvo guys its "Volvo Club of N. America", "Volvospeed/Turbobricks" and sometimes "Swedespeed". I know this cause we were asked recently if the clubs wanted to rent 2 medium tents or 1 big one.

If you guys get a tent, will likely be right across the way from the Volvos section.

If this gets organized with good attendance, this could work.

I'm in. I go every year bc I'm friends with the Saabers (former 9-5 owner). Even if we don't get 200+ Subies, it'll be nice to have bigger group representing than the handful of Subarus that I've seen at that show. It's just a good time overall to meet, bbq, check out cars, etc.

Carlisle is open to everyone, you guys can just show up and show off your cars. You don't need a club to sponsor to go, you only need a club if you want to rent a tent or are trying to beat the Saab guys.... I'd say just show up and if you can get it sponsored get a tent for when it rains (and it will!) or put the Keg under the tent for everyone to rally around...

Last year I help my buddy make this. He had a spare trunk lid and got all the gear together to hold 2 kegs in the trunk.

This is my car and in the background you can see the tent that they rent out, IIRC this is a large, big enough to park 6 cars underneath it...

I had the 05 OBP STI at the show last year.

I'll also touch base with my SAAB friends to see how they got organized and run their show.

Maybe. Why is it that every year Carlisle Import which is mostly vintage/classic cars held the same weekend as Jefferson 500 @ Summit for vintage/classic cars? Don't they know they are competing w/ one another and for one to simply move the weekend eiher way they'd draw more people?

We'll have our 08 STI race car at the show. But at the PA Hillclimb Association tent supporting the series. Hope to meet some fellow Subaru owners.

My Suby is a daily driver. My interior is pretty ratty, and the paint needs some help. So I'm definitely not showing my car.

I'm down for the autocross though. Doubtful that I'll make it into the top 25 with 165HP and all-season tires, but it seems like it'd be fun. Anyone have any tips on what to bring or do for the Carlisle autocross, outside of general 'race driving' stuff?

Yeah....don't bother. It's a TINY TINY TINY track and not well kept up. They do drift and autocross and the drift guys barely have enough room to fishtail, let alone get sideways and do any real drifting. The autocross they set up is pretty much just a slalom through cones, turn around, and do it again (the stretch is about less than 100yds)

And if the autoX is being organized by Susquehanna region SCCA, another reason to avoid.

Thanks for the warning. I guess that gives me more time to browse for T-shirts and stuff.
