Default *NOT SUBARU* T56 Caprice @ Barber Motorsports Park

Hey ya'll,

As mentioned in my other Tail of the Dragon video thread, I dove headfirst into a long cruise to Barber MSP outside Birmingham Alabama back in January. Barber is a real treat to drive, and it was nice to get a slight break from northern PA "winter" weather while down there too.

I've just started putting a little more energy into video editing and such, so I'm happy to get any feedback ya got.

Cheers!

Barber is most definitely a great track , technical but not super fast , rewarding when done right

I’ve been to both quite s few times but mostly on bikes

The vids are cool btw

Nice video. If you get a chance to come back down south, there are some other great tracks. I've only done Charlotte Motor Speedway's Roval and Carolina Motorsports Park, but both are pretty cool. I want to get to Road Atlanta and VIR this year if my schedule allows.

That's awesome! I'd love to do it again, but time will tell. So many tracks, so little money

After watching it again straight through, I could definitely edit things down a little bit more to keep it exciting, especially since the last session was probably some of the best footage, but also stuck wayyy at the end of a half hour video... I still feel too goofy trying to talk to the camera Youtuber style on a solo trip, but maybe I'll get used to it, haha.

I certainly plan on it!
The Roval looks fun, but we do have Pocono up here that has a few layouts utilizing the NASCAR banking, which has kept me from really itching to try it all the way down there. CMP is on my list for a winter getaway, almost went in early December, but figured I'd better not spend all my christmas present money on a track trip for myself

Atlanta Motorsports Park is heavy on my list, and Road Atlanta is on there too. VIR is super cool, and I think I've been there 2 or 3 times now, I'd definitely recommend driving it when you get the opportunity!

Looks like a super fun track... I kind of like that the speeds are pretty moderate.

I'll have to put it on the list.

Also... you got some really crappy point by's. Like I'm gonna point you by but I wanna let you know my car is still faster.

Video rarely does elevation changes justice at so many tracks, and Barber is certainly no exception. The amount of compression grip in spots where the track goes uphill is sweet, the track really only has one "slow" corner at T5, and overall flows very nicely. No real risky high speed corners like you mentioned, especially compared to places like the Climbing Esses at VIR. I've got pretty tall gearing, but it's still fairly rare I go to a track with a decent average speed but never shift into 5th.

Receiving crappy point by's seem to be a pretty regular occurrence for me, if I even get them at all sometimes.... I think there's a lot of folks out there that either don't like being caught by a land yacht in the corners and braking zones, or just can't believe it, maybe both?
And then when they can't ignore me in the mirrors any longer and give the point, there often isn't a whole lot of throttle lift off - again kind of assuming they're convinced my car must make a bunch of power since I caught up. It doesn't, certainly not by today's standards. 203k miles on the stock motor, I might be pushing 260-270whp if I'm really lucky, but it does make gobs of torque which gets me out of the corners at least. But c'mon man, I need you to lift with the point if you make double my power in your GTR350ZDEMON5000000

CMP is great, they repaved it last year and the surface is really nice. AMP, RA and VIR are all on my wish list!

Good to know!

If you are eyeing up any particular dates at those tracks, let me know. Otherwise I'd be most likely to go down to any of them next Fall/Winter, when track season is winding down or just plain over due to the winter weather up here.
