LGT wagon suspension in Baja. It's done, and it works.
Going in Friday for an alignment, everything thus far is close.
Running the stock 225/60/16's, and they are really close to the spring perch, but are not hitting. (with a different tire brand who knows). KYBgr2's and stock springs for an 04 LGT wagon. Stock Baja upper mounts. I did remove the rear bump stop. Before: after: Took a short drive and hit some speed bumps/hard driveway approach angles and no rubbing. seems to ride decent!

It looks good! I've often wondered what this would look like in terms of drop, whether it sits level or sags in the butt, etc. It looks like things worked out very well. Thanks for posting these pictures.
BTW, would it be possible for you to list the part numbers that you used for everyone's reference? |

It's in my garage getting repaired. It's the franken Baja right now, bumper, left fender are off, passenger fender is bent up, hood dented, fog lamps busted out. It was a very abused Baja that I rescued.
I will dig up the part numbers and post them up. Also Subie was able to get the front aligned fine, the rear has just a bit more neg camber than spec. |

Wondering if the H&R springs for the 00-04 Legacy wagon (part number 29443) would fit. They should drop it another 1.5" in the front and about 1.3" in the rear. What would the issues be? Alignment and camber obviously.
Hmmm... **scratches chin** |

the rear is where I would suspect there to be a big issue, I need to get the whiteline kit for my rear, and that should get it back to spec (barley) so I think anymore drop and it would be too far out.

So now that you have been running this setup for a while, what are your thoughts?

I'm happy with it! Today actually I had just under 500# of scrap metal in it and it was just fine, and then helped move some stuff and had it loaded
I have not been able to make it to any autocross events yet, so no feedback there. I have just under 3k miles on it and a few smaller road trips and it rides great! |

If it is not a PITA for you, can you snap a side shot of it now that everything has settled?
I really appreciate the update and am glad that it is working well for you! I am really thinking about going this way since my stock struts are starting to get tired. Thanks again! |

One follow up question. I can't tell if it is the crown on the road or the suspension itself, but does it have a bit of butt sag? I'm just wondering if it needs a small spacer in the rear to even things out. It is really not shocking and no biggie if it does. I had to use them when I put a WRX wagon suspension on my old SF Forester. I'm really just running a cost total in my head.
Thanks again for the info and the pic! |

Took this one today. It sits level, but in true form it looks a little lower due to the cut of the wheel openings. I would say a 3/8" spacer would be about perfect! |

Another couple of questions, sorry to keep doing this to you but I'm getting close to a purchase.
How close are you to hitting the spring perches in the rear? I'm asking because you are running the stock 6.5" +48 wheels, mine are 7" +53 RS 5 spokes. I'm a little afraid that I am going to have issues with this setup since I move in 11mm from where you are. Also are you running a 225 wide tire? Thanks again for any info. Are you still liking the setup? |

I still love it! I will try to snap a pic tomorrow of the tire- perch space. I am running the stock 225/60/16 tires/wheels.
I did end up trimming the bump stops down and putting them back in because I do load it up a lot, and I had a r/r strut failure, I don't think it was anything due to load/height, but I did end up finding a small nick on the base of the strut shaft, causing the strut to leak. I replaced it and again all is wonderful. I dipped the wheels this weekend to see if I like it, here's a quick shot I took today. overall, I would do this swap again and again and again It's a much nicer ride than my Outback with STI suspension had! |

Thanks again! Great to hear that you are still happy with the modification.
It really looks great and I want to do it to mine, I'm just afraid of my 53 offsets making contact. Super curious to see how close yours are... |

How wide are the wheels? My '11 WRX wheels(+53) rub slightly in the rear on stock suspension with 225/55/17 tires.

Quote:
-Winters are 16x7, +53 -Summers are 17x7.5, +53 I've never actually had the 17s on the vehicle, as I just recently purchased them. I was going to run the same size tire that you are currently running, though I have not bought anything yet. The RS 5-spokes (winters above) are fine on my stock suspension with 225/60/16s. Crap, it sounds like I may have issues. I'm also now wondering if Bilsteins are any wider, since that is what I was going to go with. As much as hate the thought of doing it, do you think that a 5mm spacer would be enough to let it clear, or would I need more? |

Benhart21 - is the contact on the lower perch or on the coil itself? I guess that I just assumed on the lower perch...

Oh, you don't need to worry about it hitting the suspension. Since it's an 8" wide +53 it will occasionally graze the inner wheel well, on mine in the rear. It doesn't happen enough to be a worry, it just left a little shiny spot on the metal. It wasn't the wheel hitting either, just the tire rubbing a little. Didn't damage anything since it probably only happens when I load the car way down. I had way more noticeable rubbing when I'd turn at full lock on the front when I had the 215/65/16 grabbers.

That is good to know, thanks Benhart21. I ran 215/70/16 Winterforces on mine, so I know what you mean. What year is your Baja BTW?
Now the real question is what are the possible issues if I go as low as SVO1 with the 17x7.5 +53s? |
