Questions about 08 impreza 2.5i performance modifications
I have a few questions pertaining to my newly purchased 2.5 i impreza (automatic).
1. I am disappointed with the lack of power and acceleration of the car and was wondering if it was possible to simply add the turbocharger from the wrx model to the 2.5 i model and if there would be any problems that would come from it. 2. Also is it possible to change my automatic transmission to a manual. 3. And for both of these questions how much will it cost. Thanks.

I have an auto OBS and happy with it. Sure I'd like more power, but I can't afford a WRX and I had to get an auto as my gf will need to drive it from time to time. All I'm going to do is some suspension and a few cosmetic mods and call it a day. BTW, congrats on your purchase. |

It would be a BIG mistake to try and add a turbo/manual trans you can however: Get a lightweight pulley do suspension/brake mods (stiffer/better suspension will make your car quicker) I believe you can have your car tuned (change when your car shifts) |

you made the wrong buying decision if this is how you feel. and no, it's not "quick for what it is." It's slower then pretty much every car it competes with, due to the weight and drivetrain loss of AWD coupled with an engine that provides power simply on par or below what other cars offer. I say either be happy with what you have, or take the fall for making a hasty decision and trade it in/sell it and get something that will meet your desires.
Having driven an auto impreza 2.5...i can tell you i was pretty disappointed with the power. The engine itself is fine but it doesn't mix well with a 4 speed automatic and all wheel drive. If this was a FWD car that was 200 pounds lighter and had a 5th gear like most other automatics, it would feel and be much quicker. It's a very practical car that is safe, reliable, and great for the winter...but fast it is not. |

You are best served by selling it and getting a WRX. Naturally aspired Subaru's do NOT lend themselves to turbos and adding a manual transmission will do little to change acceleration. Your only other option is to modify what you have to give it a little more pep.
