Superstore/warranty/recall Issue
So today I took my 02 WRX in for a recall I received for a fuel leak. I have had the issue before, much more evident when I was in Flagstaff. Service writer there was very polite, helpful with questions, and even razzed me on my randomly horse voice as this morning. They even drove me back to my work in Tempe.
Here is my issue, it is a factory recall, for a pretty serious issue (fire hazard, safety, etc). The writer began to tell me that there are some vacuum lines that may likely break when the work is performed, also parts had to be ordered. Said vacuum lines, if and when they break, would be my responsibility. I call bull shiz, and will be contacting S.O.A. on Monday. I was under the impression that ''incidentals'' are covered in this situation. If I refuse to pay for parts, due to lack of funds, and the car catches on fire then that is their azz. Yes or no? Any advice??

Whatever you do, don't let them do the work before you talk to S.O.A. If you let them do it and don't pay, you wont have a car for awhile.

im not sure on an 02, but aren't the only vacuum lines dealing with the fuel system is the one on the fpr? If so, a single line shouldn't cost much. But you are right, it should be covered as an incidental but to be sure talk to SOA or another service manager elsewhere to double check what SOA covers in terms of parts for the specific recall.
IMO, if the car catches on fire, it wouldn't be on their ass. They already gave disclosure on the situation on what is needed to be maintained to keep your car safe and up to you to make it happen at your discretion. |

Yes it is your responsibility...
Rubber lines from old cars usually turn into plastic and tend to crumble when touched/moved. Any parts on a "recall" or a "tsb (within warranty time)" are covered 100% by soa. However SOA will not (unless u know how to bypass) cover any related parts or parts that are not in the description of the recall or tsb. If its a tsb and your out of warranty, then you will be paying for that tsb work. The recall that your doing, I do not believe has anything to do with fuel leaking. it was more for the smell coming threw the ac vents. I know what your thinkin "if u can smell it then it must be dangerous and can be ignited" I totally agree with you on that. But, in my experience on the service side of subaru, i dont remember ever hearing or witnessing for myself a bugeye that has caught fire due to this. pm me, ill tell you how to get everything covered. |
