Yes, I am using a standard 17", 7.5, +48mm Rota with DMS 40's. The Kumho MX in 245/40/17 is not as stiff as the 225/45/17 Azenis that were on hand that same day, but I have never got to play with the BFG KD's though.

How big is the gap between the rear strut and the sidewall of the tire?

Rough estimate I would say about 5mm.

Question Volk TE37

The only offset for the TE37's are +38 and +46 in 17x8 do you guys think the +46 will work with 245's? I like the TE37's better than the CE28N and wanted to knwo what people think.

Thanks for any info.

Matt...

Thumbs up

I mounted the rest of the 245 MX's today and had just enough time to go for a quick test drive. No interference issues were discovered. In two short on ramp tests the tires felt like they had a descent level of grip. I will do another road test tomorrow and then put them through their paces on Sunday. Unfortunately at this time I am the sole entry in STX. I will just have to compare the indexed times. Those tires really fill up the fender wells. It is going to be hard to put the RE92's back on to drive to events that are farther away.

My rota deal fell through... turns out the wheels weren't really what I was looking for.

However, Enkei has a new set of wheels that are 17x8 +45, for around $1100. They are said to be semiforged (like the SSR Comps) and weigh 16lbs in that size.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ei+race+wheels

Since +48 is a good, tight offset (from the stock strut) for a 17x7.5, i'm guessing +45 will be a similarly good fit (edit: for a 17x8)? Any opinions on this?

My reasoning is that I don't want to roll fenders to run 235/40's and since I have stock struts, I want it to be close to the strut (and further from the fender).

I spoke to King at Enkei USA and he confirmed that the wheels are rim rolled (kinda like some BBS wheels), which is between a cast wheel and fully forged one in terms of strength. He also confirmed that the RPM2 is NOT rim rolled, just cast (from http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...n&pagenumber=1)

So I can get a set of fully forged Volk CE28N's for around $1650, or these rim rolled Enkei's for $1080... it's that same temptation as the "Supersize those fries" phenomenon... but it's just $600 more blah blah Funny how it started with $500 Rotas, now it's $1080.

oz superleggera in 18x8 has a 51mm offset and they dont rub on sedans that are super low. Ive been thinking about these enkeis and the offset first made sense to me because those 17x8.5 advans are 43 and are supposed to fit on wrx sedans. Then I remembered that the oz's were 51 and started thinking (prolly the wrong thing to do)....

well, how'd they feel compared to the falkens in terms of breakaway, overall grip, noise, wear, etc.?
i used up my tires this last weekend at the PRO event (you all should go if you get a chance, it's nice to see a solo2 run professionally for a change. www.precisionracingorg.com), and there is a local group buy for falkens that i should jump on if i want them again, so i'm eagerly awaiting your impressions after an autoX.
thanks,
james

I am very happy so far with the MX's. Unfortunately the Auto-X was a wet one so I could not get a feel for what they are ultimately capable of. As far as noise on the road I could definitely hear them, but did not find it annoying. Since it was wet they are showing very little wear after only three runs. With the cold wet conditions I was enjoying the Kumhos far more than my aged R-compounds. Hopefully the next event will be a dry one. When playing with the Falkens and Kumhos side by side off the rim the Falkens are obviously more ridged in construction. Has anyone compared the KD's construction to that of the Azenis?

Hehe. They're slightly lighter and 8 inches wide, which will yield a squarer carcass and more contact patch. Plus, if I go 245/40, they're still within the recommended range.... unfortunately, it sounds like from AutoWRXer's thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...threadid=99847
which I think mlambert was referring to, some higher offset on those without coilovers might give you more room to prevent needing to roll the fenders. Of course, I guess I'd be screwed if I did go back to coilovers, but I guess I could use spacers which I know are not great.

uh, anyways, to clarify and sum up my previous post, a 17x8 +51 might be better for those who don't have coilovers and don't want to roll fenders when running 245/40's. The question is, does a 17x8 +51 wheel exist?

a 17x8 et 51 wheel has about a 0% chance of fitting and NOT rubbing the strut.

In fact, a 17x8 48 offset would rub the strut IMHO.

Look at all these posts! I'm going for Guru!

Anyways, Volk makes the GT-N and GT-C in a 17x8 +50 in 5x100. http://www.gruppe-s.com/Volk/volkgtn.htm

IIRC the GT- series has a forged rim with a cast center (2 piece wheels).

The TE37 and SE37K come in a +46, which is only 1 mm "better" than the Enkei.

Ahh, I didnt realize that you were on stock struts.

With any coilover, you will rub though.

This might be a strange question, but why did you choose Kumho MX's over Azenis Sports? I've heard a few comments on sidewall flexibility on the MX's....

BTW, you're running 245/40R17's right?

I'm not in the market, but I think the Azenis only come in 245/45-17 which are too tall and will rub all over the place.
