Slipping clutch issue.. with new clutch kit,
Hey guys, quick history on my issue:
car at 50k miles clutch started slipping. at first i thought wow i need to change how i drive because this shouldnt be going out so early. but i thought it was rather interesting how it would only slip when colder, and not really during the warm day (sometimes it would but rarely)... so i buy a new clutch kit, and replace the clutch disk(my stock clutch i took out looked to be in 90% perfect condition.) pressure plate, throw out bearing, and the bearing that goes in the middle of the flywheel, and get it all back together and it runs fine.. no more slipping at all. then one night when its cold it all of a sudden decides its a great time to start slipping again. so i got the suggestion to bleed the hydraulics to the clutch. so i get some good dot 4 fluid and have a friend help me out by pumping the clutch while i drain from the bleeder and pour the new fluid into the reservoir. so that was finished the car now has dot 4 synthetic fluid in it, and no air in the system and the car is running perfect. no slipping or anything. (did this just this last thursday evening) and now last night saturday it decided to slip again after 2 days of hard driving and cold driving, and warm driving it randomly decides its gonna slip when pulling out of a parking lot last night... now i think it maybe the slave cylinder, but i am not 100% does anyone have any idea what this could be? and if it is the slave cylinder how much do one of those cost usually? thanks a lot guys, this is really frustrating.. 2005 wrx shouldnt have this issue.

Yeah I mean since you have all new mechanical stuff (aka clutch kit) I'd be inclined to say something is busted with your hydraulics. That's what would make me lean towards a problem with the slave cylinder but it's hard to say.
You're right though... this shouldn't be happening in a 2005. |

The hydraulics will make the clutch disengage, not engage. You're having an engagement problem, not a disengagement problem.
What did the flywheel and stock disk look like? Were they glazed? |

they were not glazed.
i understand the hydraulics are apart of the disengagment but if the slave was having and issue full retracting then couldnt that cause the clutch disk to not come all the way back to the flywheel? something i noticed recently that when it starts to slip, if i pump the heck out of the clutch pedal it will engage and not slip anymore.. it cannot be the clutch parts as those were all replaced with brand new parts and still doing the samething as before. so that is why i am thinking the hydraulics are having retracting issues. but it is really hard to say. |

it sounds like something is sticking, either the pressure plate, or the slave cylinder something with the actuating mechanism. if your sure everything is installed right i would look at the pedal assembly and the slave cylinder. i think the shop manual has the distance it should extend

yeah. i am thinking slave because i noticed now, that if i pump the clutch like crazy in neutral when its slipping, it will do something to cause it to grip again.
which makes me think slave. i dont think its the pressure plate as that was replaced with this new kit and its doing it exactly like before with the old pressure plate.. only directly related part that hasn't been replaced is the slave cylinder. |
