Question PDM Racing CAI. What CEL issues, now?

I've been wanting a PDM Racing cold air intake for a while now, and at $50 each, I think it's the best CAI deal going. Plus, I think that its design (supposedly identical to the original GanzFlow) sits up higher in the car, taking air from the upper fender, rather than the Cobb unit, which I think goes lower. Also, the PDM retains the OEM airbox. These two things, I think (??) will help with preventing the water-suck issue.

Which worries me. A lot. I drive a TON of miles on my car, sometimes. It's the only car I have.

If I go and get one of these things (I have no other engine/exhaust upgrades--the car's stock, excepting an FHI V5 suspension and a couple other goodies underneath), I know that some folks get CEL issues. I really need to know *ALL* I have to look out for, and do, after purchasing a CAI.

Some say that you really should have an AFC installed, if you want to mess with the airflow. Which... sounds good to me (the type of person who likes reliable upgrades), but at the same time, those are like $300, totally defeating the purpose of a cheap CAI upgrade.

Sooo... Please, offer as much advice as you can, fellas. No too-technical terminology, if I can request that. I've been around for a couple years, but I'm not quite there yet. Heh...

Oh, here's the PDM, in case ya haven't seen it. (Though I'm sure most of you have. Especially Richard L., if you're around man, as you always pitch in with the PDM topics. I do have all the engine bay shots of your car on my PC, but one's all I need.)

That's off PDM's website. The pic drives me berserk, though... That strut tower brace is mounted backwards.
(I happen to own the same Whiteline brace, but regardless, it's backwards.)

Thanks!!!

Topic also posted on RS25.com, but I wanted opinions from 'Clubbers, too.

A little off topic....

Hehe...that isnt backwards. That is just the other strut bar option, one is forward facing and one is rear facing. I actually have that one on my car.

As for the intake, I have a Ganz CAI. I am known to put 24k miles on a car in a year. Right now I have the stock exhaust also, I have yet to throw a cell with the intake.

Just sharing some of my expierence. I might just be one of the lucky ones so far.

Got the exact same intake before I reached 1000 miles, and 6 months later at 5100 miles I have yet to throw a CEL or anything else.

I also have a Cat-back (custom midpipe and muffler) and lightweight pulleys. No problems.

Only recomendation would be to reset the ECU after installing the intake.

PDM is good. Nice customer service and good price on the intake. Overall very happy with their service.

I've had the Ganzflow CAI on for about 10,000 mi now and no problems whatsoever. As far as I know, 2000+ cars with MAPs shouldn't have any problems with a CAI.

I have the PDM intake on my car. You can't beat it for the price. I like it alot. You can really notice a difference. It only took me about 15 min. to put it on, 3 bolts holding on the stock piping. Than all you have to do is clamp it on at 2 spots and put in your rubber stripping around the fender hole. As for blowing CEL's...NEVER I'm still waiting for my exhaust to arrive then the setup will be complete. But heres a PIC of my PDM.

I can't see why the PDM CAI would cause CEL on a 2000 - just why would it? Essentially it's just an enlarged straight pipe coming into the stock air filter box, and with the MAP sensor, I don't see any issues there either. I had my CAI for quite a while now, and all that extra noise and throttle response make me want to get an exhaust.

I had my PDM CAI for close to a year now, and so far no CEL, even with the Brospeed exhaust.

Speak of Richard, and he appears. Yeah I have the BroSpeed exhaust too. I assume you're talking about the factory one.
(What? "Pointless? Overpriced?" Yeah but I got suckered into it.
Heh...)

Sounds good so far, folks...

So is it just the Cobb-type CAIs that throw CELs? Is it the removal of the airbox that does it? The controversy has to come from SOMEwhere...

Yeah I have a K&N in my car, so I've got the filter stage covered.

Looks like I might look into the thing after all.
