Default Engine build 05 STI

Hey i have an 05 sti, and i am looking to build the engine a little. Not looking for crazy power but around 400whp. Just wondering if anyone knows a place that sells the build kit. Not looking to buy a short block or anything, my brother has been a mechanic for like 25 years and he and I would be doing the rebuild. Does anyone know of a place that sells the kit for a decent price? thanks in advance

Is that What you're looking for? Im kind of confused by this post. If you're looking for engine internals, why a kit? Why not just buy what you need?

Ya what I'm saying is I'm not sure if that's what I'd need. I might need a head gasket so I figured while it's out maybe I can modify the engine a little to be stronger for down the road.

If you're assembling a turbocharged Subaru split-case motor and only think you 'might' need a head gasket, then you and your brother might not be the right guys to do this job.

The machine work involved in re-assembling this motor with any hope of reliability will require an experienced machine shop.

My brother hasn't checked it yet, but I'm just assuming worst case scenario. Either way it would be nice if someone would just answer the question instead of saying other things.

Any of those kits will work for your build. You just have to decide which brand of parts you want to use. Also, as stated above, you should consider having your engine checked out for proper bore, piston clearance, crank shift mains alignment, and deck surfaces. If you're going that far you might as well just get oversized pistons and have them bored and honed for proper fit. Make sure you have your heads checked out as well and have them surfaced especially if you're dealing with head basket issues. Pick up a genuine Subaru gasket kit. And if that sounds like it's too much, IAG and outfront motorsports are to big names in Subaru performance engines. Check them out.

Ya I was looking into the IAG one, didn't seem to be a bad price for what I'm getting. Definitely would have the the head sent out as well to get it checked. I'll see what happened as far as the headgasket goes, hasn't gotten hot again just the one time. Thanks

When this happens, its a good sign that you're asking the wrong questions.

Can you buy the kit listed and stuff it into a motor? Sure.

Will it give you what you want? Hard to say - there are more factors at play than simply the brand of parts and retailer you choose to purchase them from.

As others have mentioned, a pre-built short block from a reputable vendor (IAG, Rallispec, etc.) is probably a better way to go.

Yes, I may go that route in the end. But as of now thank god the headgasket doesn't seem to be the problem anyway. So I can continue to drive this while I save for a forged block or something similar to it. Thanks for the replies
