I don't think Subaru will "blame" the government; but, it certainly was about government regs. Or future ones really. I do also agree I think they should have finished it and offered it up. Even if it was for a short time, I think they could have recouped some of ALLL that money they invested in it versus none now. But also think the majority of Mustang/Corvette/Charger buyers are mostly a different demographic to be used in this kind of comparison. Kinda like the Legacy in Japan. For SUBARU customers, the car got too big. Not necessarily for the average Japanese cause there are some HUGE cars sold over there. Same here. Certain people will buy those American cars. How many of the entry lever 6cyls and such are sold(minus Corvette of course)?

Not wasting time arguing ab someone in favor of EVs on the forum. It’ll be back and forth.

Subaru didn’t want to pay the fines. Simple as that. So dealer and I could argue back and forth ab what engine and who saw it but the facts are this:

Multiple Camden NJ SOA employees saw the Mule sti, and the finished product on multiple occasions over several months in person,

Subaru in the end decided to use a 360+ HP engine that was “all new”

Subaru pulled the plug when they realized they’d be paying big fines. They ****ed their own most loyal customers over. Simple as that

Well subaru already had the dilemma of not having enough hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or all electric to better offsett their standard AWD vehicles. They had to fight hard to comply with cafe regulations. We were lucky to get a second generation of the brz and still have the wrx. The STI had an inefficient EJ25 and only came in manual. Subaru did not develop an automatic, be it a CVT or DCT for the STI. Time ran out to find a solution. The tightening regulations would not allow the continuing of the EJ in a heavier body. Putting a FA24DIT in STI tune in the new global platform with only a manual transmission was only going to worsen the fuel economy rating it was already making. Subaru had to make the ****ty call. Eat the fines and pass it down to the consumers where the STI may cost the same as the S209 or concede that as much as they don't want to, for the greater good, the STI must be sacrificed for the time being. When the solterra and a newer plug-in crosstrek hybrid is released, subaru may consider a more hardcore version of the wrx.

I would argue that Outback owners are probably the most loyal to the brand, not the flat-billed rice burner drivers...

Absolutely.



Not sure how it works if they could even pick production back up to do that for us or whatever; but, I am sure if they knew well enough in advance, they would have come up with a "Final Edition" offering.



They were putting a lot of effort towards the SGP STI. There's no way they had any intention of screwing anyone. You don't spend that much money to do that.

I agree. From what I heard at the time of the announcement, employees (not in the know) were caught off guard by the STI's death.

Pretty sure, the STI will have less than half the current problems releasing at a future date after the Solterra is released. Its time for Subaru to spend the money to update their powertrains. Had to happen sometime. Time for the dino's to go into a museum. Its the New Young Families who are in control of the trend for Subaru, as they are within their target market price range. When the economy changes our needs for us as people/customers, you will most likely see Subaru making changes again. Any corporation wanting to continue being a corporation will follow suit in the same way regardless.

Solterra is only 7,000 cars for the year. If they can't afford to offer more BEVs, quickly, they need to start offering hybrids...Outback and Forester need it asap.

Oh mannn, those are easy sells. Im not sure what technicalities are involved but they really only need to make one engine to be shared amongst the rest. Im actually surprised they haven't done so already as far as implementation and only kept it exclusive to the Crosstrek. Just goes to show how tight Subaru is on their current budget.

They have/had an Impreza and Forester Hybrid overseas. It's not as much budget, I think, as what will their American demographic pay for.

Lol I’ve never even owned the hatchback model. I’d argue the last true hardcore enthusiasts in GENERAL , not just Subaru enthusiasts, bought the 04-07. The only one I’ll continue to buy. When’s small auto companies stop making unique products to pull enthusiasts into showrooms it’s usually a bad sign. Look @ Mitsubishi. No more Montero , evo, etc. Mitsubishi was arguably a more successful company at its peak than Subaru has ever been at its peak when you take into account the times

Yes, those are like the 2014+ Crosstrek Hybrid. They need bigger batteries to be competitive.

Meanwhile Hyundai/Kia/Toyota/BMW are looking at alternatives besides just electric cars.

F1 is committed to switching engines to synthetic fuels by 2030... Putting all their eggs in one basket, just like Subaru has done in the past will only lead to their demise even faster. Toyota will likely takeover, as many have suspected.

Were people saying GM would take over Subaru back when they had 20% stake? AND Subaru was struggling a bit? I don't recall anything.

Now, Subaru, minus pandemic, is doing gang busters and it's all "the sky is falling and Toyota will take over".

No one is saying the sky is falling but it will fall if Subaru go solely electric, that was the only point I was trying to make.

22's definitely not selling in Seattle. Dealerships here are paint matching the ugly fenders to try to get them to sell. Those I looked at online on lotts for over 100 days... in my opinion,they need to make fenders rounded again and paint matched. would look great then

Why? If there is any legacy OEM that was born to be EV, it's Subaru.

The Subaru customer, besides the base model buyers, will happily switch to EV.
