I got one from a lifted SH FXT the other day. Occasionally from a BRZ too. It's definitely still around, but the VA owners definitely aren't as reciprocative as the older gens.

Ironically I just waved at a 2006/2007 Impreza sedan and the dude waved back. Call me Mr. Time Traveler!

Another model year without major changes planned or implemented. The 2023 model year may offer painted plastic moldings as standard - but that isn't enough. The company is aiming to bring back the hatchback body style as it sees VW and especially Toyota attracting much of its customer base. The WRX sales being down nearly 60% (and no signs of improving) are causing big wigs in the US branch of the company to lobbying for the Hatchback and even the STI's return as well - in hatchback form only. We should hear more about this in the late winter / early spring.

All I will say is that Friday is a very big day.

As for the current model***8230; The owners of these dealerships are NOT happy. Things are getting very ugly for this product, very fast. 50/50 shot Subaru starts offering painted flares as an option before end of this year is what it sounds like.

Someone else mentioned ambassador $$. What I can tell you is that a lot of money was spent to make sure the WRX launch was positively covered by the press. The initial reaction to the reveal video was NOT expected by some people who make decisions in Camden. Keyword is some.

The GR Corolla has had the positive press coverage, and the dealerships won't be able to keep up with demand.

Based on how the new WRX was received by those the press initially covered it, especially on social media, the same thing should have happened. It didn't.
All of this belongs in a trash can.

I don't think it belongs in the trash. There might be some merit here.

I mean it's not just the WRX being funky. Subaru up and killed the STI and didn't replace it. So no big wing and bright green yellow brakes and 19 inch wheels to sell people who would otherwise be getting into their first STI or trading in their STIs on the new one. That's lost money and lost future money. Couldn't have sat well with the larger dealers.

I wave at WRX even when I'm not in one. Ok, I do it low so they can't see, Hahah. When I drive my buddy's VA I wave/get waves back. It's part of the WRX experience.

Already bookmarked his posts. Just another flashback call out waiting to happen. Every time someone has tried to play “gotcha” with me, it doesn’t end well for them.

“Gotcha”?

I am simply informing enthusiasts of what’s going on. I have made zero claims that aren’t true. You do understand that what I’m saying is in regards to what is being discussed currently?

I love the Startex in my wife's OBW.

the 2023 legacy sport excites me for about 3.2 seconds. then I realize it's heavy, CVT, sedan. heavy I could learn to deal with, but I truly enjoy rowing the gears still, I loathed owning a sedan. I wish I had never done it.

luckily, you don't have to wait too much past today to eat crow, or show everyone you are the greatest.

I'm not sure what all the hubris is about though, I can imagine the dinner table conversation.

SODealer: ugh, there was some guy saying he had insider info on NASIOC today!
SODealerSO: oh wow! what did you do?
SODealer: well, I put that guy in his place, I told him I bookmarked his post!
SODealerSO: I'm so proud of you!

I guess, point is, it's either true, or not true, why let your panties ride up into your butt about it? just move on with your day. you don't get extra brownie points for knowing more than someone else.

I just return the energy I’ve been given over the latter part of the past 2 decades. I slip medicine into the oatmeal and NASIOC perceives it as me peeing in its cornflakes.

Explain how you can know I’m making stuff up?

Not sure why someone giving the community the info they’re looking for is so bad

Well, it wouldn't be unprecedented. The bugeye lasted 2 model years before they slapped on a new front and rear and birthed the blobeye.

I could see something similar happening where they finish painting the car and send it in for a rectal prolapse procedure...

He's sharing rumors, and this forum is for Subaru news and rumors.

It sounds very plausible given the abysmal sales. As with everything on the internet, I take it with a grain of salt. But last time he had some rumors to share, it was that either the STI would be an EJ or it would die. And what happened, it died. Maybe he made a good guess? But I think the STI dying is not something that anyone here would have predicted.

Not sure if I can remember correctly but I believe I had said that long before anyone in the automotive news had any idea it would die as well as prior to the WRX teaser video

In fact they where posting the opposite of what I said, they it would be based on the ascent motor, 330+ HP, etc, everything they said was never even on the table

proof of info is always a nice way to avoid doubt. But then again this is a forum of news and rumors. Now with the loss of the STI, the golf R, the GR corolla, and upcoming civic type R, no longer see the subaru wrx as competition. If the SOA brass is noticing that, then they have reason to worry

I never understood their rationale to give the WRX more power. People being mad the STI was a hatchback with no big wing had nothing to do with the power output of the WRX.

shrug
There was quite a bit of complaints at the narrow body WRX styling (chromed plastics) but the power delivery/tuning was different from the outgoing models. Even though the power rating was the same, the delivery was earlier and less peaky for drivability reasons. It wasn't a desirable trait among enthusiasts at the time. Combined with the softer suspension, it wasn't well received. They gave our market the JDM Impreza S-GT and slapped a WRX badge on it. The bump in power was definitely a response to the drivability/power delivery aspect, but also to match the power numbers other manufacturers were releasing with their products, such as the Dodge SRT-4, Cobalt SS, and Mazdaspeed 3. But I don't think they wanted it to be faster than the STI.

The complaints on the STI were indeed separate from the WRX. First being a hatch only. Controversial, yes, and bucked tradition of big wing but the justification was for WRC reasons, but that ended up being short lived. But even the styling (front bumper especially) had European aspirations written all over it.

Anecdotaly, there are a crap load of new 2022 WRX's for sale in New England right now and, from what I can tell, these are not sold orders. Some are in transit but my tiny dealer shows 5 of them on the lot and unsold. 5 is a ton for this dealership I can't recall the last time they had 5 WRX's sitting on their lot o in the last 2-3 years. They usually had 1-3 at most. And they are MSRP only.
