Default Parts needed to borrow/rent for NJ inspection: Steering wheel+front seats

Well, I just got another WRX last week, and it has an aftermarket steering wheel and front seats, among other things. Needless to say, the airbag light is on, and I need to run the car through state inspection. I could swap the seats/steering wheel from my silver '02 WRX in, but I wanted to check the locals first, to see if anyone has a steering wheel w/airbag, and/or front seats laying around.

Please let me know, as I'd be willing to "rent" the parts for a week or so, to allow me to run the car through state inspection.

I'd also be open to buying a steering wheel outright, as I'm not a fan of the non-airbag Sparco steering wheel that this car has.

Thanks,

Mark

I'll bring up 2 things about the seats:

1. For PA inspection, I, too, wanted to make sure I would pass because I have a sparco drivers seat, and thus, an airbag light. I even told my mechanic about it, he said, "actually, we can't fail you for an airbag light." So I know Jersey is more nazi-esque, but it's worth finding out about.

2. You can turn off the airbag light using a resistor plugged into the airbag sensor. 3.3 Ohm resistor (hard to find) or 3 10 Ohm resistors run in parallel will do the trick. Not classy or permanent but enough to make the light go away.

Interesting stuff, Cirrus. My other reason for wanting a WRX steering wheel is that the horn is not functional on my Sparco steering wheel, which I also don't like. I'm thinking that I can live w/aftermarket seats, but I'm probably going to put a WRX steering wheel/air bag back in there and sell off the Sparco steering wheel. Or if someone wants to trade steering wheels, I'd be open to considering.

^ I hear ya, actually, the steering wheel missing the horn MIGHT be an inspection violation, so you're probably going to have to do something about that one. I seem to recall several times waiting for my car to be inspected (again, PA, not NJ) and I can definitely remember hearing it beep, I assumed they were "testing" to make sure it worked.

Well, just bought a steering wheel w/air bag, cruise, and all connectors, the guy will ship today, so I guess this thread is now mute...I'll probably just pull out the front seats from my other WRX for inspection purposes, although it will defnitely be annoying to pull them, install, only to pull and reinstall back into the silver one the next day...lol

just do the resistors, the inspection guys won't even look twice at your front seats.

you better bring it to someone you know because it will NOT pass NJ inspection with shaved door handles, and the tinted tail lights, door handles will be a big problem at state inspection,

horn is required... not sure about door handles. they arent really needed, and some cars in the world are produced without them..

^Yeah that's one I never heard before that door handles are required. Not doubting it, but surprises me.

you can take my word for it, since i work at state NJ inspection station in ridgewood, shaved door handles will not pass, the door must open from the outside as well as the inside to pass, if one doesn't work you will fail, as far as the airbag light, you will not fail for the light being on, but your horn has to work
