Christina's 2011 WRX: Building Buster
I'm a little late to the build thread game, but... better now than never!!
Here's a picture of Buster in his current state: I'm going to start Buster's story from the beginning, but for fun, let's go even further! Here's my very first WRX, Ruby. She's not my first Subaru (I had a 2010 Legacy prior to Ruby) but she was the first one I modified! And I learned to drive stick on her (poor thing). We spent a little more than a year together and made decent progress! PERRIN Resonated Quad Tip Cat-Back PERRIN Single Piece Downpipe PERRIN Equal Length Headers PERRIN Cold Air Intake PERRIN Recirculating Blow Off Valve COBB AccessPort with PERRIN tune Enkei NT03-M H&R Sport Springs Front Lip Side skirts Trunk lip PERRIN Shift Knob PERRIN Made-for-BRZ Drift Knob PERRIN Strut Brace PERRIN Super Shorty Antenna PERRIN Radiator Shroud with Radiator Stays PERRIN Pulley Cover Then I got restless and orphaned Ruby and hopped into a 2007 335i. The RWD, twin turbo was fun and it surrre was pretty (space grey with cardinal red interior) BUT... turns out I really am a Subie girl at heart. Not only am I surrounded by Subarus simply by working at PERRIN Performance, I made so many friends by becoming part of the local Subaru scene. BEST friends who I can't imagine my life without, now! It really is part of me. When I really started regretting trading Ruby in, I tried desperately to find her. Because the dealership obviously can't disclose any information, I posted on ALL social media accounts begging friends and acquaintances to look out for her and enlisted the help of a friend with access to local auction websites, jusssst in case. Finally, a friend spotted her at a local shop.... clothes and fast food bags covering the interior. I was floored! I about marched my butt over there to ask for my car back! Then... it happened. Somehow my name and address were still on the title and I got a notice of a DUI arrest in my vehicle and a notice that the car had been impounded! I was LIVID. Who on earth would take my baby, get lit, and drive off with her?! My only bit of silver lining was the potential for the car to head to auction if she weren't claimed from the impound lot. Maybe I could get her back! Alas, I called and the new owner picked her up before she went to auction. I won't lie: I cried at work. So it seemed like we'd come to the end of the line for Ruby so I started looking for a new baby. So here comes Buster! I found him nearby, completely stock, at a great price and just asking to be modified. Oh, and here's Buster with my other main man, Zeus: I've already modified Buster a decent amount, including a number of PERRIN items, the wrap by Fred Roman at FR Auto Enhancements, stereo upgrades, etc. I'll be posting about all that at a later date!

It didn't take long for me to get wheels on this guy.
When I was searching for wheels for Ruby, the Enkei RS05RRs had just come out; I was in love and wanted them SO badly. Unfortunately, they were quite outside my budget. Not that I didn't enjoy my NT03Ms, but the RS05RRs were what I really wanted. So this time***8230; I made it happen. Gunmetal, 18x9.5, 5x100, et+43. This time I went with some lower profile tires: 245 / 35 / 18. There's a little bit o' stretch. Lookin' like a monster truck: Having these wheels on made me smile constantly for a week. Ok, probably longer. Ok, they still make me smile. SO worth the money. After driving a couple days, dying for my coilovers, they came in and I was able to get them installed! I've chosen H&R for both cars, but having done their Sport Springs on Ruby, I knew I wanted the Coilovers this time. I knew I wanted to be lower right off the bat and also liked the idea of being able to adjust because I'm often a commitment-phobe when it comes to making a decision for my car. Sometimes, it's tough being small. Sometimes, it's super convenient to be able to get into my trunk for an installation. Befoooore: And after! I did rub a little bit on bumps and sharp corners so I had the fenders rolled. Problem solved! A little later, I grabbed my hair dryer and a bottle of beer, got to work on the badges, and with Zeus' supervision it turned out quite nicely! Ok, so we're wheeled, lowered, debadged***8230; time for power and rumble. As some of you may know, PERRIN used to make downpipes. One of those downpipes was a single piece, single cat, 3" pipe. I had it on Ruby and I knew I wanted the same one this time around. With none left here at work, and no new PERRIN DP to be found elsewhere***8230; I started looking for used. The Car Gods smiled down on me when a friend approached me, letting me know he wanted to put his car back to stock in order to sell it and wanted to trade his PERRIN single piece downpipe for my stock one! SOLD!! Time for a tune. A COBB Accessport, of course, and a PERRIN tune by my friend, and awesome PERRIN tech, Chris Cone. In the time between putting a cat-back on Ruby and getting Buster, PERRIN came out with a NON-resonated (still 3") cat-back and it's exactly what I wanted. Louder and rumblier (yes, rumblier) than the original, I'm really happy with it. Bye-bye ugly, gutless stock cat-back... Helloooo pretty PERRIN! Note the car on 2x4s. I asked Jeff to pull my car in that day, and get in on the lift. (I'm not about to risk somehow accidentally running into the GTR or knocking over a rack of product) You should have heard him complaining about it being too low. I wish I'd recorded it. At first glance I thought it was a special edition orange WRX. The color is very close!
Looks great, sorry about Ruby but congrats on the find. |

In regards to the wrap:
How much did it cost? (if you don't mind me asking) How long has it been on the car? How's it holding up? Does buster sleep in the garage? Or on the street? |

Any idea the power levels after the first round of mods on your first wrx? I've been debating doing headers on an already stage 2 setup

were you running a staggered front to rear wheel setup on your first WRX? I can't tell clearly from the pictures. I love the color on Buster though!

Looks great, Christina! If I remember correctly, you have a pretty slick audio setup as well.

Well, they start at $2500. For me, I also used brush aluminum for the roof, mirrors, and parts of the bumper and that costs a bit more. Overall though, a great price - especially compared to others in the area and the quality is top notch.
It's been on the car about 3 months. It's holding up PRETTY DANG well, the only thing is that it's been hot as HELL this summer so there are a couple small spots where it's coming up a little. You only see it if it's on the lift though, or I'd be going crazy. Sigh. Buster sleeps outdoors, in the driveway, so he's exposed to the elements. Waiting for that 5 car garage with lift and indoor wash station |

She was never put on the dyno, but should have been about 300 to the wheel.
The PERRIN header adds 15-20 WHP to your stage 2 setup. I really felt a difference once I added those... It feels A LOT faster because it spools quicker and it's a lot of fun. I can't wait to get them |
