Hello everyone,,
This race is mayhem right now. It's in between wet and dry.
Leclerc blows it (Had a shot at first). Just like Vettel last year. reverse image search email checker port checker
Hamilton spins it. Gets back. Gets a 5sec penalty for wrong pit entry.
Ferrari and their sloppy pit stops again!

Racing Point - Aston Martin?

Lawrence Stroll, leader of the consortium that bought Force India last year, is said to be looking at taking a major stake in car maker Aston Martin.

The iconic car manufacturer floated in October 2018, just months after Stroll's consortium bought Force India, but with sales failing to reach expectations the share price has dropped dramatically.

Worth 19 at the time of the float, in recent weeks they have slumped to around 5.

Neither, Stroll, Racing Point or Aston Martin is commenting on the speculation, but at least the share price has responded, increasing by 15% to almost 6 within hours of the story breaking.

An early backer of clothing designers Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors, Stroll has helped build a number of other companies into global brands including Pierre Cardin, Ralph Lauren and jewellers Asprey & Garrard.

Fellow members of the Racing Point consortium are John McCaw Jr, one of four brothers who made their fortunes through the sale of McCaw Cellular to AT&T for $12.6bn in 1994, along with Silas Chou, Canadian entrepreneur Andre Desmarais, Jonathan Dudman of Monaco Sports and Management, financial expert Michael de Picciotto and John Idol the boss of Michael Kors.

Aston Martin, of course, is title sponsor of the Red Bull F1 team.

I can see it happening. I don't think Aston Martin wants their name associated with the Honda Brand on the same team.

facepalm.

Anyone getting into sponsoring an F1 team without a clear path to an electric powertrain, is throwing good money after bad.

I'm even more convinced that FE overtakes F1 by the next powerplant update, or that F1 steals FE lunch and goes all electric.

Yep, F1 will bleed off fans in the transition to FE. I don't see F1 "stealing FE's lunch and going all electric", unless it's a merger situation from the FIA. The F1 name has so much more cache and value that when the time comes that FE is ready for primetime, I could see the FIA merging the 2 series rather than trying to manage competing series where 1 is dying and the other is growing. It's going to happen quickly, I think, because F1 just started a new phase of growth under Liberty, so talking about the death of F1 feels weird now. Emphasis on "now."

Investment in F1 will drop as electric is the future but viewership will lag behind and stay with F1 until FE is producing a competitive or even better product. And viewership means sponsors which means money, so it will be interesting to watch the different big players at the table (manufacturers, title sponsors, etc) and where/when they place their bets in a changing environment. Even if FE cars are as fast as F1 cars and produce more or less identical racing on the same circuits, the FE brand just doesn't have the market cap that F1 does, so the overall growth will still lag even though they're producing a comparable product to F1. I think that's where F1 will stick around beyond its actual competitiveness. Even if someone makes a better product, a lot of consumers will stick with what they know until the inevitable transition forces their hand. The trick will be transitioning them to FE and not losing them altogether.

I'd say yes and no. Electric is the way of the future, yes, but not necessarily the way of racing. As much as I don't like NASCAR and their outdated technology is one of the many reasons why I don't watch it, but they have been able to grow their sport with out of date technology for years. And again, I'm not saying NASCAR is good, but it has been able to grow over the years, even attracting more factory support from manufacturers who never offered a car in the US that would fit the "stock car" format. So it's possible for F1 to continue to grow without switching to electric.

I'd say F1 should delineate themselves from consumer products, and just be the ultimate racing series. Cherry pick from all of the years of F1, and allow the best of all years to be legal, and see what kinds of cars people produce. It would be crazy. Bring back the V10s that rev to 24K, allow active aero, allow the next generation of a 6 wheeled Tyrrell, etc. IF they did that, they would make a clear distinction between them and FE, and they would surely show growth in the sport.

Ehh, NASCAR isn't really a great example. This is just the Daytona 500, but you get the idea:

I don't think radical open regulations would lead to growth. That's just what you want to see as a fan. That stuff's not coming back. Manufacturers don't invest millions and millions for that. They do it to invest in their futures (not past) and advertise them on a global scale. Mercedes, Ferrari, Honda, whoever, they would flee from that kind of series immediately. The OEMs are going to drive the future of racing because they build the technologies. If the sport doesn't align with their priorities and investments, they're out. Which is why the F1/FE crossover will be very interesting.

Huh, good point, but I'm talking about NASCAR's growth since the 80's or 90's. Since whenever their technology was relevant on a consumer product. Otherwise, its all just marketing. I think Ferrari, Merc, Honda, whomever, would still be interested in participating if the sport gets the eyeballs. They'll portion out their R&D budget to the labs or whatever subcontractor is supplying the regen systems in their production cars. Then they'll slap a sticker on their F1 car that says eTron, or eDynamics, or whatever the company's branding is on it.

It's just mass worldwide advertising. F1 just needs to do whatever they can to get the viewers. If they have the viewers, the manufacturers will come/stay. In my opinion, how to get the viewers: Exciting racing, compelling technology, personalities/stories of interest.
