I need help to find a reliable shop to fix the auto tranny in my 2005 turbo baja.
It is still running okay, but it has 300,000 miles on it and it now throws a hot tranny warning when coming down the mountain from my friends ranch. I change the tranny fluid and it seems fine until I try going to the ranch again. I am assuming the clutch packs are just worn out and slip when engine braking down the mountain (30 miles of dirt/no roads). Since going there is one of this cars main functions, I do not want it to fail on me up there or half way down.
I have looked and talked to shops here in Salinas, CA and no one seems to know anyone who works on a Subaru auto trans. Dealer just wants to install a new trans at a high price.
I can take it to a shop up in the bay area (Mann Engineering built the motor in it) if necessary. This is a stock motor car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need this car to go up to the ranch and I need to able to trust it.
