Default Impreza Auto-Dimming Mirror Compatibility

I recently turned in my 2015 Impreza Sport Limited hatch. I now have a 2018 Impreza Limited hatch. Can I use the auti-dim compass mirror from the 2015 in the 2018? I can't imagine there would be that much of a difference in the plug, right?

What's wrong with getting a 2018 autodim compass mirror? Or you mean you have that left over? Ya the connector should be the same. I did the swap (2015 to 2018 for the frameless mirror). Connector was the same.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Yes, I still have the mirror from the 2015. When I removed it I just tucked the plug up in the headliner and kept the mirror. Would the plug still be tucked in the headliner of the 2018? As in do the cars come prewired for this stuff or is this something that has to be done by the dealer? I don't wana risk damaging the headliner looking for a plug that isn't actually there.

Ya the plug is tucked and taped up there. If you have a sun room it may be a lil tight.

Just need to remove the map light unit. I suggest unplugging your battery before you take a screwdriver to it.

If you unplugged the plug with the flat wire from the mirror and tucked that end up into the headliner on the '15 you have a problem. The harness plug in the '18 (as it was in the '15) is up near the map light. The flat wire that plugs between the mirror and the factory harness comes with the mirror - if you left the flat wire in the '15 if you don't have a way to connect the mirror.

So it turns out even if I did have the wire that I left in my old car, the 2015 mirror isn't even compatible with the 2018 car. They said its a different part number. I politely explained that I am not ignorant to how some car parts work. I asked to confirm that although it might be a different part number for the new car, is it actually a different part? It is only a mirror after all. The parts guy said "the mirror for the 2015 is wired differently from the 2018." So I digressed. I can tell by his tone that he didn't wanna be bothered.

Are there any techs on the board here than can confirm for me that it will in fact not work?

Untuck the wire from the headliner and see if the connectors are different?

I don't have the wire. I left it in my old car.

I haven't had the pleasure of fooling with the mirror on an 18 yet but I did look at the wiring in STIS. One thing I failed to mention: The Impreza got redesigned in 2017 to the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) so that has a lot to do with the changes noted below. These are the connectors in the roof wiring harness that the flat cable that comes with the mirror mates with.

The 15 Impreza has a 3 pin connector (R139) and is not wired for auto dim side view mirrors.

The 2018 Impreza is a 5 pin connector (R139) and is wired for auto dim side view mirrors.

BTW: The SGP is the base for all Subys of the future starting with 17 Impreza, 18 Crosstrek, 19 Ascent, 19 Forester...

Thank you so much for that very useful information. I take it you're a tech? Would you happen to know if I can order just the extension harness that runs from the mirror to the connector in the roof?
