Pre, It's sad that the VA now looks "pretty good" after seeing its replacement. Sad.

This thread full of haters is all fun and games until Mike Botti gets his hands on one and shows us its tuning capability. Looks won't matter after that...

here is the 2022 STI gauge cluster:

The current VA STI gauge cluster is nearly identical. I like it, but that doesn't mean you put it in a modern day vehicle when everything is going to high quality digital.

If you've ever seen the cladding on a new Subaru, you'd know wrapping it isn't possible. Think golf ball texture.

The cladding has grown on me enough, despite still being stupid, where if the new STI was a good performer I could compromise and buy a darker color. Even the red looks 'OK.' I've never disliked the front end. The side profile looks OK. But the rear. I could never get over it. STI had better differentiate the rear bumper enough where it looks OK without the wing. Seeing as how it's the more hardcore model, Subaru probably feels there's no need to make that change. Prior to growing up and going wingless, I used to think the VA trunk needed the wing to feel complete, but it's leaps-and-bounds better than the S4.

Side note: The wingless trunk still looks incomplete on the toned down VA WRX from the 45 degree and side profile. The bigger wheels and more aggressive STI front end help for some reason. Or, bias...

People will buy it. There are plenty of early-mid life crisis dads out there who will riminess about their high school days when they still thought the WRX was cool, but were not enthusiasts and never got one. At 30-40 they will have the money to do so, and they can sell the four doors to their families. At BBQ's and get togethers they can justify it by saying "it's a quick little car, and fun to drive." Cigarette smokers, vapers, and/or craft beer enthusiasts without a doubt. Goes well with the taco-bell/drunken pizza night bellies.

You shouldn't have to "get used to the way it looks" when there are plenty of other handsome options that look good without having to sell it to yourself. I didn't have to "get used to" the way my wife looked before I put a ring on it. I went for the attractive option instead of settling, but I've always imagined ugly people and/or people who have nothing going for them had to have this mentality when jumping into bed long-term. This is what I imagine when I see a morbidly obese couple walking through my local Walmart. They focus on a few features and settle for the rest. I won't settle on a prolapsed *******.

Don't jump into bed with this car, just because it's the easy option, and you're comfortable with WRX memories. Be patient and selective.

Please. It's 2021 where numerous SUV's are doing 0-60 mph in low 4's and trapping in the 12's and Golf R's are putting up 3.9 sec 0-60 mph times. Hyundai and Honda are breaking 5 seconds 0-60 mph with FWD. Meanwhile Subaru has somehow managed to make the WRX and STI slower today than they were over 15 years ago. Even with a tune these are going to be pretty average performing vehicles in this day and age.

Cool bro. The customers have to spend thousands and fix the thing after dropping 35 large. Then spend more money getting the CUV off it. Sounds economical to me.

And there's still no fixing the terrible interior.

I don't think it's terrible as shown in the Levorg STI. If the STI gets that interior it's going to be at least better than the badly outdated VA interior which was a full generation old at release.

I strongly dislike the monstrous tablet. It doesn't look good in any car. Tesla, Subaru, whatever. I hate it. The design of the VA interior is a million times better, albeit in need of some style updates.

I was just thinking, there is no way the WRX will be faster than the SI or N in a straight line all while crushing the gas mileage. Not to mention, the BRZ sounds like at 5.3 0-60 it will be faster as well.

The interface of the tablet looks like it was designed in 2005...pretty terrible

Then you are going to hate most modern vehicles. I and most people will have no issue with this larger display as it's kind of twisted logic to prefer a smaller display that has smaller text and takes more focus to press smaller buttons. The VA interior is archaic and it being a million times better is highly debatable. The issue with the new interior is that the UI is dated looking and slow response of the display is a problem I hope that improves over time with software updates. I would prefer hard buttons for climate control but I am one of those people that uses automatic and sets it and forgets it so not going to lose sleep over that.
