Default What the Clutch?

Howdy y'all. I know I've been posting a lot but damn this clutch got me messed up.

I called FlatIrons Tuning to get a flywheel for the new clutch and when I gave him my VIN number, he told me that my 02 needed a completely different flywheel and clutch than the other 02's. He said it was because it was an early model and now I'm stuck.

I have no earthly idea if I should be looking for a JDM 01 WRX clutch/flywheel or if I need to be looking for something hyper-specific that Subaru used for only that brief period? And would my JDM swapped tranny need a specific clutch/flywheel combo?

I just want my damn car back, I miss her.

Hello, it's possible that the requirements for the clutch and flywheel could differ from the original specifications. Since JDM models may have unique components, it's essential to consider this when selecting parts.

You're the one with the jdm swapped clutch shudder issue right? Did you confirm it's a pull style transmission?

If it's pull style, and 5 speed, get the 03-05 wrx dual mass flywheel. The 02 was the solid one that chattered.

parts.subaru.com lookup for an 03 wrx 5mt to get these numbers.

The flywheel is subaru part number 12342AA071. Google pictures this online, you'll notice the front side has a cover plate with 9 star bolts. That's the one you want. Either new or used and have it resurfaced is fine.

You'll probably want the 02-05 updated clutch cover and disc. Part number 30100AA840

Exedy is the oem for subaru in that era, FJK1006 should be the one. Be wary of counterfeits online, Exedy is a well known brand so of course fakes exist. Ebayazon is notorious for this. It's a new reality. I don't have an answer myself other than finding reliable vendors.
