Default 05 Legacy vs 05 Outback wtf

Alright so I've been out of the game for a while, I admit. I remember when outback was a package, not a model. Pretty sure title said Legacy, reg says Legacy wagon. The hatch says Outback. It sits taller than the 05 legacy parts car that's sitting in the back yard. I wrote it of as "I have a 2005 Legacy Outback" like my 98 was. Now we get to the complicated part.

A buddy of mine borrowed the car, and somehow (I'm assuming foul play) the driver front wheel came off. Only damage was to the rotor, sway link and wheel studs, on the corner that had a bad wheel bearing anyway. Naturally, I swapped the knuckle off the donor car, as well as the rotor since the original was chewed to hell.

Now I'm looking for brakes all around and I'm finding a 15mm(ish) difference in size between the 05 legacy and the 05 outback front rotors. Did I pretty much just screw myself here? I still have the original knuckle, I could always buy a new hub assembly and reinstall that if the brakes aren't going to fit properly, but I really don't wanna go through all that again.

I guess at the end of the day the real question is, is there a difference in the knuckle itself? One that would cause clearence issues if I were to buy the brakes for the outback?

You're not kidding about being out of the game for a while. The Outback was made it's own model starting in 2000. Obviously it still was (and still is) based off the Legacy, but there was no more "Legacy Outback" as of 2000.

The '99 Impreza under your name? The '98 Legacy Outback? Or the 2005 Outback?

What models are you looking at, and where are you looking? Compare specs here: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/legacy/legacy2005.html and http://www.cars101.com/subaru/outback/outback2005.html. Yes, the base model Legacy had smaller front rotors.

I'm not 100% sure on the normal Legacy/Outback (non-GT/XT models), so confirm with the links posted above or on Opposed Forces.

http://opposedforces.com/parts/

But yes, the knuckles are the same. You could get reman calipers and cheapie rotors at Rockauto, and you'd have new brakes for minimal investment. As far as I know, Subaru put the same brake setup on all WRXs and Outback XTs, so you could probably find those parts pretty cheap as takeoffs. Now that I think of it, I might have a set n my garage. But confirm that they are the same part. Bu I don't know if there is a difference between the XT and non-XT Outback brakes.

There are 276mm brakes and 294mm brakes. Probably a thread around here somewhere that lists what car comes with what.

Borrowed the 05 outback, the other dozen or so subarus are gone minus the 98 forester and the 98 impreza coupe that's still waiting on the ej20 to drop in.

That was referring to the 05 legacy parts car in the back yard, which I swapped the motor out of and into the 05 outback.

That's what Id heard, which made me think there might be a difference in the knuckle between the legacy and outback

No.
Exactly what I wanted to hear. Sorry for the late response, I typically use the computers at work, overnights are quiet. Unfortunately they started monitoring web traffic.
