Default Instrument cluster wire harness question

I just installed indiglo gauges in my '00 rs. The instructions that came with the gauges said to hook up the power to the headlight power supply (red and black wires). I was quite wary of this, because it means that the only time the gauges would be on was when the normal headlights were on (i.e. not when the parking lights are on, and not when I turn on the brights).

So my fears came the true, and the broken english instructions were not by any means the best way to hook them up.

I am 99% sure that they need to be hooked up to the dimmer. The only issue is that I have no idea which wire it is. The are three harnesses that go into the instrument cluster. I dont have any of the subaru service books, so I don have any clue.

Does any one have any clue which color wire the dimmer is???

I originally had mine hooked up to the power switch on an extra set of driving lights. When I took those off, I needed something to provide power to the gauges as well. So here's what I did.

Borrowed a set of service manuals from a friend and took the gauge cluster completely out. Disconnect all the plugs from the back, no worries, the only thing you'll lose is the clock and the trip odometer. The manuals said that power for the gauge lights (that light up the needles and the like) were in a certain plug. So I took a voltmeter, put the car in the "On" position and turned the lights on. I tested each connection looking for voltage till I found 2 or 3. Then I turned the lights off and saw which one changed in voltage. Checked it by holding the voltmeter on that connector and turning the lights on and off. That told me that when the headlights come on, the gauge lights will come on. So, I tapped the power wire for the indiglo gauges into that wire. Now, when the headlights come on, all the original guage lights come on as well as the indiglo gauges.

Hope this helps, email or PM me if you have any other questions.
