Subaru Stars Factory speaker wire color codes

I am going to add aftermarket speakers to the factory head unit. I have taken the door panel off and looked at the speaker connectors. I will have to cut the factory connectors off, and I was wondering if anyone knows the color codes for the factory wiring harness? I don't see any (+) or (-) on the speaker, and the connector looks like both slots are the same size. I know the aftermarket speakers that the small lug is (+) and the big lug is (-).

TIA,

Bill

one way to do it is just make sure you use the same polarity on all speakers. So if you wire the after market striped wire to the subaru red and black, then do the same thing on the other doors and then wire the after market solid wire to the other suvaru wire. Also, you dont have to cut the connectors, just go to oreilly and get some electrical connectiors, i cant remember the name but they look like tiny little paddles that you can crimp wire too. Then you can always put your factory speakers back in or.....just make your install that much easier.

According to the Subaru wiring diagram for the 2002 Impreza...
Code:
CORRECTED:
L front + = Brown/White (- is Green)
R front + = Red/Yellow (- is White/Black)

L rear + = White/Red (- is Red/Black)
R rear + = Blue/Yellow (- is Red/White)
The wires labeled + above are connected to the positive outputs of the stock radio. It's possible that Subaru has reversed the polarity on all of the speakers at the speaker plugs. That will work fine as long as all 4 are reversed.

EDIT: I have corrected the above color table. The wire colors of the front speakers are maintained all the way from the HU to the speakers (backwards of what is shown on Subaru's wiring diagram, and what I originally posted above -- front right and front left were swapped). The Right Rear was/is correct. Left Rear was bogus, now fixed above.

See armand1's posts below, and his new thread:
MY02 (and on?) Speaker Wiring Diagrams

If you really want to be sure, connect a 1.5v battery across each speaker. When you connect + to the positive terminal of the speaker, the speaker cone will move out towards the front (towards you).

Most of the wires change color mid-way between the radio and the speakers.

SVXdc - I found out the hard way that the MY02 wiring diagram is way wrong on the speaker hookups (pages WI-52 & 53). What kb2spn posted are the CORRECT colors for MY02; the wiring diagram is wrong.

I will try to scan in my corrected pages and post them here.

OK, I've scanned in and posted my corrected 2 wiring diagram pages as a separate thread.
