Default innovate wO2 what cable for serial to usb?

Have a mtx-l wideband setup and the new laptop has no serial port. The gauge had a db9 serial plug on it and I want to convert that to usb but I'm not certain what cable to use. I know I need a db9 to usb but which kind? Heard it needs to be "null modem" type, not sure if that's correct or not.

I know innovate carries a cable but it's kind of pricey, eBay has quite a few db9 to usb cables for a fraction of the price.

All I did was go to the local computer store and buy a serial to USB converter. There were not multiple types, just multiple brands. It has worked for me for years now.

Buy a Keyspan High-Speed USB/Serial Adapter, USA-19HS (just copy and search online)

It may be a little more expensive but they work.

Some of the prolific based adapters have driver issues.

Don't bother with the bustedfinger motorsports cable, I struggled with it for months with no success. Bought a different one from an electronics shop and it worked first time.

Lol yeah, I just want to make sure the one I get will work. There is db9 to usb adapters for 5 dollars to 50 dollars and I heard the cheap ones don't always work. If someone wants to post/pm me a link to one they know that works that would be awesome.

Ordered up the PLX board and wired it up but haven't got it working yet since I borrowed a staples one. Either way the staples one is still finicky. Make sure you set the bod rate in the hardware (pc) correct or you'll never get the thing to work right.

Yeah sorry mate.

The bustedfinger cable uses the prolific drivers which can apparently be a bit iffy. I tried every version of the drivers on the net and couldn't get it to work so I bought a cable with a FTDI chip, worked first time.

This is it, australian website though:

This is what i use. It did take some fiddling at first due to romraider being a bit flaky with com ports but has been working ever since.

Good call on the OBDII extension. Best few bucks I ever spent.
