So i finished installing this kit. I flashed the map, start the car and then the check engine light came on. I checked the code in AP it says... ETHANOL SENSOR VOLTAGE LOW INPUT.

Can someone point me to the right direction to troubleshoot? Thanks!

Don't start the car until you have checked and made sure you are getting a reading by turning the ignition on and monitoring TGV voltage or Ethanol Raw.

Ok.let me reset the ecu and try again. I did check the tgv voltage before using a multimeter before i installed it and it read fine. Well, 91 oct was reading like 9% ethanol.

You were watching you AP monitor? Was it fluctuating a lot? Or just within 1%?

Ethanol raw was fluctuating from 8 to 12. Final was 8.7. That was when the engine is running. When the engine was off. Ethanol raw was reading 8.4 to 8.7.

I think for it to throw the code, it had to have been lower than 0.5v

Did your low ever go down to 0%?

Ethanol raw was actually jumping a lot. Like it will jump to 34, back to 8 then 60, etc. I recorded a video. Im uploading now.

I forgot to update the thread that I found the capacitor needs to be 0.1uF instead of 10uF

Try swapping the cap.

thats pretty normal jumping. Thats why they built in signal smoothers and content lock for WOT

but those weird spikes at 1:11 & 1:40 are not normal

^^ i'm hoping swapping the cap from 10uf to .1 uf will fix this issue.

So i swapped the cap and the check engine light never came back which is good. But the weird spikes still occur. Is this ok? Here's a datalog:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

spoke too soon. change engine light came back on so i unplugged the kit for now.

The log looks good. Only fluctuates less than 2%.

I'm not sure why the CEL came on again, though. Hmmm.

Did you ever see it go down to 0% with the engine running?

yes it did go down to 0% again. it's in the log.

should i try powering the Arduino using a voltage regulator instead of USB?

By the way, the only difference i did on my install is i put some molex connectors between arduino and ff sensor and tgv so I can easily disconnect/connect in case i need to uninstall. rest are same, i powered flex fuel sensor from rear o2 harness.

Hmm... you can either switch the capacitor to the other side of the resistor, making it a high pass RC filter. The high pass filter is how I originally rigged it up, and it worked, but the reading was just a little wavy, but within 1-2%

Other option is use a 3.3k ohm resistor and change this line of code;

pwm_output = 1.11
To whatever gets you back to 9% ethanol, because changing the resistor will make the voltage go up a little bit. Try going lower, like 1.05, 1.00, etc

Ok, i'll try those and see what'll happen.

Also, I think I'll make another one. i have a nano and will follow your instructions from post #2

Arduino Uno powered by USB car charger:

use pwm_output = 1.08 * [rest of code]

with 3.3k ohm resistor and 0.1uF capacitor. I confirmed this is pretty rock steady.

Sweet. Ill go test it out. Will report back and will let you know the outcome.

This time, ill monitor the output thru sketch and see if there will be spikes.

I think i made a stupid mistake. I may have grounded the flex fuel sensor to the wrong wire on the rear o2 harness. I think i tapped it to the wire that feeds the rear o2 signal to the ecu.

I found out because i tapped the aem uego to the rear o2 harness as well and it was not showing accurate data on the ap. It is stuck at 10. So i rechecked your other thread and found out what i did wrong.

I will reinstall the kit tomorrow and flash the flex fuel map and see how it goes. Hopefully that takes care of it.

By the way, I also changed the resistor to 3.3k ohm and updated the pwm output on the code as you've suggested.

I plugged the kit again today and drove for about 30 mins. i still get spikes on Ethanol %. it's not as often as before though.

Here's the datalog:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

Spikes occur at rows 650, 3658, 3956.

Are these normal or they shouldn't be happening at all?

Jeff, do you even see similar spikes on your set up?

You shouldn't be getting them at all like that.

Ok. I guess this kit ain't gonna work with my car.

I thought maybe the issue is related to power since i tapped the usb to ignition using fuse taps. So i went ahead tried powering it using the rear o2 harness and as soon as i start the car, the ethanol % drops to 0 thus triggering cel. It cuts power when the engine cranks.

It might just be the capacitor. You can try using .01uF or a larger one, like 1uF

Is the cap wired properly in the RC filter? Properly grounded, too?
