Default What's the deal with the BCP x500 turbo? Not many reviews out there

Seems like BCP has been on the map for several years with their X500 but I just don't see that many reviews and first hand experiences posted on the boards. Besides the X500 vs X500+ thread on the Legacy forum and the several posts here about shops using them there is not that much info. Anybody here running the BCP X500 please post your experience and if you like it!

I'm looking for a stock location turbo upgrade to replace my current VF43. Car is a 2008 FXT with the 4EAT transmission and an IAG Stage 1 short block. I need something fairly quick spooling and responsive and capable of 400whp +/- 30whp on pump gas. Don't want to go rotated and no EWG. After looking at my options it seems that my options boil down to the BCP X500 and the Blouch 1.5. Yes I have looked at the FP turbos and from what i read it looks like they are too laggy for my driving style.

Currently have the following on the car - KillerB ELH, TurboXS TMIC, Nvidia catted DP and a milltek CBE. Will be getting pump, injectors, tgv deletes, and turbo inlet when I decide on the turbo.

I have a x500+ sitting on my shelf waiting to be installed. I'm waiting on some shipments for the other stuff I'm putting on it. Should be on in the next 2 weeks . Unfortunately for you I'm running it on E85 and an EWG so it wont be apples to apples. None the less when I get it on I will start with an ACN91 tune. I'll let you know how the spool is. not planning on running more than 18PSI on the ACN91 map though.

Did you search? There are reviews and results out there. Look also on BCP facebook and Fast Subaru's of Michigan, also Corbin Johnson of Johnson tuning has tuned vehicles with both turbos.

I've got a 500+ I'll be using to break in my closed deck build.

I don't have facebook so I may be out of the loop there but there just isn't any feedback out there for the X500. I've searched. Yes there is more info/reviews out there for the X500+ but I am looking at the quicker spooling X500. Everything on paper looks like its a dom 1.5 killer at a lower price but no one is talking about it.

Used it on my 2.5L hybrid for almost a year and sold it. Made 370WHP on 93. It did not meet the expectation of 400WHP. My tuner said is was like a slight +1 to a Blouch 20G if that. I swapped it out for a Blouch Dom 3.5 and now make 411WHP on 93. While it is cheap, if you want 400 on 93, I think the smarter option is their 500+.

I'm not mad at the 500, but online presence and the name make people think its a 500WHP turbo. While that may be true for E85 types, the naming strategy is a bit disingenuous.

Since I was disappointed, I asked my tuner: I want a 400WHP turbo for 93. He said Blouch 3.5. I got one. I made 411. Could I have made that with a 500+? Maybe, but I was once bitten twice shy. So if 400 is your goal, I'd say go 500+ on 93 for a 2.5 and PLEASE report your results.

Thanks Unabomber. I think I would be pretty happy with 370WHP and that number is inline with BCP claim of 500 crank HP. Besides the HP numbers, how was your experience with the X500 turbo? Is it responsive? How is the lag compared to the Dom 3.5 or the stock turbo for that matter?

It's been a while but I went ahead with the BCP X500. Just couldn't justify the high price of the blouch and FP was too laggy from what i read online. The build should be complete by next week and then I'll find out if I made the right choice going with this turbo. Along with the turbo I'm installing a Grimmspeed ebcs, IAG tgv deletes, perrin inlet, ID 1050x injectors, and aem fuel pump. Just waiting on a wideband right now. Again, nothing too crazy since the block is only rated for around 500 crank hp. My main goal is a super responsive reliable daily driver.

Thanks edmfozzy for posting those numbers. My setup is pretty close to yours and I feel like I'm sitting around the 360whp and 380wtq due to having the 4EAT.
I say feel because i have not had the chance to get it on the dyno.

I've had the setup daily driving for over 6k now. Due to timing constraints I had to go with an etune since it was a 1+ month wait to get it tuned on a dyno. When the temps outside are below 30 degrees I am thrilled with the car. The response is amazing and the car is a rocket especially on the highway.

Buuutttt, when the temps warm up I feel the car loose big power and the lag is more noticeable. Having an auto does not help. Few things I want to try this summer - install a splitter for the hood scoop. Install turbo blanket. Get tuned on E85 on a dyno.

Overall very happy with turbo. No issues at all.

I'll update this thread with dyno numbers in a couple months once I make the switch to E85.
