Default EJ18T pistons

I have an EJ18 im rebuilding. I was planning on doing a full turbo kit but still keeping it a daily driver. Heres some of the stuff I had planned, VF43 turbo, STi injectors and fuel rails, STi headers, Crossmember, ERZ Uppipe and a full custom exhaust. I was planning on going with EJ20 or EJ22 heads. As for the internals on the block comes some questions. I wanted to do pistons and rods but didnt know which to go with if any possible. What I mean is, would I have to get custom pistons made for the 1.8l? I see EJ20,257 pistons everywhere but none for the EJ18 (which im not surprised at). For the rods I would go with Scat along with ACL main and rod bearings. I have no clue on rings either for the pistons. I seen people running the turbo leg pistons but their hard to come by.

Your rods and crank are forged no need to replace those. As for dropping you compression throw on some EJ22 heads. There are loads of threads about this, it has been done before. Good setup I was going to build one of my own but decided to do the H6 swap instead. Good luck, good hunting.

use ej22e or ej22t heads. you can use jdm ej20g/k heads or usdm ej207 heads but you need to swap over the sensors to those manifolds

if you want low-comp forged pistons, they will need to be custom.

i thought about this but you can get a wrx shortblock for cheap and even cheaper with a spun-rod bearing, and you could build it yourself and have a stout motor.

do a searhc, theres plenty of ej18s on here including myself..

Default Ej18E Rings

Nowhere have I found any rings for my piston. I pulled my engine apart and the rings were halfway gone. The motor had 250000 and I am turbo charging now. I don't want those rings on there, but everywhere says they are sold out. Does anyone have any ideas. I have the .50mm oversized but they wont even slide in the block.

I've never been able to find pistons for the 1.8, but I've seen rings for sale on eBay and such. The 1.8 block with 2.2T heads is a wonderful combo if you already have all the parts. The block is arguably tougher than any other N/A engine given the thick cylinder walls and compact pistons.
However, if you can get your hands on an EJ22 shortblock and EJ25/EJ20 heads, you'll be way better off. That motor is the balls, I'll probably never build a different 4cyl unless I get around to a 2.5 destroker. The 22T heads just don't flow like the others, and the extra displacement helps a lot too.
Just my .02.

Oh yea, fuel efficiency would be another win for the 1.8 I think.
