I'm also lucky enough to have a redline dealer in town.

I like to use 2 or 3 qts of shookproof and 1-2 qts of Motul 75-90. we have found this to work very well. While you under your car don't forget the rear diff. You only need one qt of 75-90 for the rear diff. Trust me just replace the fluid. It will save you abuch of money later down the road. Good Luck.

Later

Uncle Scotty... Have you already replaced the fluids in your transmission with your cocktail, and your differentials with M1? And if so, have you needed to adjust the formulation for your new TR's tranny

Just curious.

I presume the concoction in post #1 is "Uncle Approved" for a 2002???

Thanks.

When do you think the cocktail is best to start using?

I have an '02 WRX with 28k on it and was thinking about doing the cocktail for my 30k maintenance a bit premature.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me where to find the Castrol Hypoy C gear oil? I've been to Schucks, Auto Zone, Baxster Auto, GI Joes, and some local auto parts place...no luck. Can I just use redline gear oil? I can find Valvoline gear oil everywhere, and even found Penzoil gear oil at another place, but NO Castrol. Please help me out...plan on changing it out tomorrow. Thanks guys!

Guys, (and not to take anything away from Uncle Scotty ) this mix of different oils may work fantastic and I'm sure it does. But why, why, why have to go through so much trouble tracking so many items down when you can get equivelant (and dare I say better) results from mixing part Redline LW Shockproof, part Redline MT-90. Just mix50/50 and you will be able to shift into first above 20+ mph with a blip of the throttle, completely eliminate gear shift grinding, etc. Others have used this (or close to it) as well with exact results. You can buy both of the prouducts at the same store and be done with it!

I have straight MT-90 in my 6 speed and it feels awesome. I can get into first just like I was able to on my stock 5 speed. Just push lightly and I can get into first at 10-15mph, haven't tried more since I've only been driving easy on the street.

Yeah, I think that the majority of the benefit is the MT-90 and not the LW Shockproof FWIW. I only tried going with the 50/50 mix to lessen any potential negative effects (and I don't know that there is any) on using non-stock 75-90w recommended oil. However, we all know that the recommended oil doesn't work too well for most of us

So anyway, I found that the 50/50 was the threshold to wear the grinding would be eliminated on my particular transmission, and I might add that it was more prone to grinding than most everybody elses that I've heard of.

I'm running 100% Redline Shockproof Heavy and no grinding, ever, but still can 't get'r into 1st at low speeds. Maybe go with a mix later.

LOL well on back roads with tight turns or tracks with one slow turn, 1st is very usefull. Especially when you have a big turbo that doesn't hit full boost until 4500-4700rpm

Uncle, how does this mix compare to the Neo Synthetic gear oil, which the vendor claims does the same thing? I know it costs more but do you have any experience with it? Thanks!

heheh, no profit, in fact it'll cost me as I'm looking to change up soon myself. I'll go with your cocktail then, guru.

While I'm a fan of the cocktail, I use 100% Redline lightweight shockproof and get the same results albeit for much more money. While I'm no tribologist, the KEY ingredient seems to be Redline lightweight shockproof. So to modify/help, if you can't find XXX ingredient in the Uncle Scott's Cocktail due to your location and you don't feel like mail ordering fluids, substitute Redline lightweight shockproof for the XXX ingredient.

And as to why Redline lightweight shockproof? Simon at PPG in Aussie land suggested it to Andrew at www.gearboxtech.com and he tried it out. After seeing the results, he convince me to try it. I did a full swap just before my cruise and was able to normally downshift into first gear at 25MPH, which prior to the fluid change, was a pipe dream for me. How Uncle Scotty chose it, I don't know, but I suspect that it's the key in the Cocktail. Not even Simon at PPG knows why it works so well with Subaru trannys, but it sure does.

I remember reading that people had varying results with just one particular fluid. I think the temperature, age of the tranny, and other factors had to do with it. This was a few years ago.
