Default CEL P00442

Code: P00442 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak), as per Autozone.

Mileage: 45000

Fix for problem: Cleared by resetting ECU.

Off to the dealer if CEL returns.

P1512 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 2 circuit low input
P1514 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 3 circuit low input
P1516 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 4 circuit low input

Therefore:
P0301 Cyl misfire #1
P0302 Cyl misfire #2
P0303 Cyl misfire #3
P0304 Cyl misfire #4

Year/1999
Make/Impreza
Model/ 2.5RS
Mileage: 22,000
Fix for problem:

Not sure what to do next...I took out the IAC and cleaned it up, and it helped a bit, but car still idles erratically, from 200 rpm to 1500 rpm.

Has anyone seen this before, and what has been the solution?

Thanks, Steve

I got the misfire codes on my 00' RS on 3 and 4- I reset about 3 times and they would come back every 2 or 3 days-replaced the ignition wires and it hasn't come back in 2 weeks. I got Magnecor KV85's since they are the same price or cheaper than OEM subaru wires. If you have an ohm meter, pull the wires and check continuity on them, (should read a few thousand ohms) My #3 wire was open internally, and since 3 and 4 share a common coil with wasted spark, this was my problem. Also, check your coil pack secondaries resistance across 1-2 and 3-4 (should also read a few thousand ohms) If 1-2 and 3-4 are not within say 20% of each other, you MIGHT have damage to your pack. Testing the coil primaies depends on wether yours is 3 terminal or 4 terminal IIRC. Hope this helps- Andy

Header wrap can help, it raises the EGT's to the cat, improving burn. It worked on my Borla gen.4 header; before I got the misfire codes I had a cat ineficency code.

UPDATE!!!!
I called Subaru about code p0065.
That code is a FASLE code, It is an internal error that Subaru has yet to update.
Subaru said that they will take the car in for 3 days with a FREE rental car while they send the ecu to Subaru for reprogramming.
I will have this fix done shortly. I will keep everyone updated.

Strange. I've still got that code. I'm having the air injector solenoid replaced on Monday by the dealer. I've got the Gold Plus warranty so it'll be covered.

The car has had the light off and on for over a month. Now it starts to wheeze at idle. I'll let you know about that Monday night.

Also, you've got an '01 right? Did you ever get a recall letter for the ECM reprogram campaign?

I had my ECM reprogrammed based on the Subaru recall. Since I've hade it done, I've had a ton of CE lights, mostly for the cat problem and I've had 5 or 6 for this p0065 . Now the car seems to have developed a speech impediment. It's stuttering at random intervals--probably misfiring. The dealer I went to ordered the air assist inject assembly and are going to replace it on Monday morning. The strange part is this...I've seen several RSs getting this problem. My friend had it, another member in the SE region had it, and you too.

I'll let you know how it runs on Monday.

I just got back from auto zone, they gave me a code of P1101 I didn't see it on the list, does anyone know what is wrong? I just got it back friday night from subaru. I lost reverse and they fixed it. Now when I'm in any gear my reverse lights are on so I'll take it back monday. I was just wondering if then messing with the tranny could have anything to do with it. Thanks

A good start to remove it would be something like the pony express MIL Eliminator. I used to get the 0420 (Cat efficiency code) all the time but it went away with the Eliminator. The thing is that it will come back on those extremly cold days if the underside, of you car, is constantly getting wet. (snowfall + salt)

P0117, "engine coolant temp. sensor circuit low input". Replaced ECT, no more code. Happened at ~56,000 miles on a 1995 Impreza 2.2l.

P0031 Front oxygen (A/F) sensor heater circuit low input

Don't know exactly what that means, but I think it's because I forgot to unplug the front O2 before dropping the exhaust. I guess the first step is to replace the sensor and see if it goes away.

I could go into the dealer and claim ignorance, but it would be dishonest to try and get SOA to pay for my error.

So how much does one of those 5-wire O2 sensors cost?

Just called the dealer and they're $83.45

Which is better than the $150ish that they were charging before.

P0031 - fixed today by installing a new O2 sensor.

Default Idle Air control Valve

-IAC

Ok I posted this earlier, and have fixed my problem...remember, the car wouldn't idle...

Code:
P1510 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 1 circuit low input
P1512 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 2 circuit low input
P1514 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 3 circuit low input
P1516 Idle air control solenoid valve signal 4 circuit low input

Therefore:
P0301 Cyl misfire #1
P0302 Cyl misfire #2
P0303 Cyl misfire #3
P0304 Cyl misfire #4

Year/1999
Make/Impreza
Model/ 2.5RS
Mileage: 22,000
Fix for problem:

I removed the IAC solenoid, and it sure LOOKED fine, but cleaned it out with lots of Brakleen, shot it into the intake too.

The car idles pretty nice, and getting better every day, where tonight on the way hoome,it was business as usual. Apparently these things cet clogged or dirty, and can't seat correctly. Try this first if you have erratic idle, or your car won't idle well.

Good luck

I'm experiencing code P1507: Idle Control System malfunction. I took it to the dealer and it has to do with A) vaccuum leak or B) IAC. I'm in the process of swapping a IAC to see if in fact my IAC is busted. As soon as the weather improves I'm going to check for vaccuum leaks. Apparently, code P1507 has to do with the RPM being to high at idle. I can throw a CEL willingly if I slip the clutch anywhere from 2.5k rpms and up. Also, when I come to a stop at a traffic light the rpms will hold at around 1.5k then drop to normal idle (750-700 rpms).

Code P0420 ---> I have a MRT complete exhaust. Again, when the weather improves in going to install the CEL fix.

Question

My p0065 has been fixed. Air injection valve/solenoid if I remember correctly. Covered under my gold plus warranty.

As I read in an earlier post, I installed Bosch Platinum plugs in my car...only thing I could find. Will my car now develop a problem from this? Its run over 1000 miles since my 60k service and I'm even getting better gas mileage.

Any thoughts?

Question

Hey all,

I am in no way, shape, or form able to even have a conversation with many of you considering how little I know about cars. But this looked like the right place to go.

I have a 2001 Outback Sport (blue) with no modifications.

I took it in last week for part of the 30000 check up (couldn't handle the $$$ for the whole thing).

Anyway the following Sun/Mon the Northeastern US got 2 feet of snow. I cleaned off my car and dug out enough to get her out of the parking spot. I did clear out the tailpipe gently with the end of a broom as there was some impacted snow in there.

Suddenly after that the CEL came on and has stayed on since. I have a dealsership appointment next week to get it looked at.

a few questions:

1) Did I break something when I cleaned out the tailpipe? (I swear it was gentle and only a bit inside)

2) Am I in any danger driving it?

3) What is the likely cause of this.

Have a Nice Day?

It should be fine as long as the light doesn't blink. You can take it to Autozone for a free scan, but don't have them reset it. That way you can find out what the code is.
