![]() If I was to try some of the 100 octane gas available at the track this weekend, would the stock ECU be able to recognize this and adjust for any better perfromance? Thanks
I'm still a newbie

![]() No. The ECU cannot sense and then add in timing to adjust for it properly.

Higher the octane means the harder it is to burn, hence with race gas (cam2,Q16,etc..) you can get more power. This is because you can advance the timing, and run more boost before knock. So without a tune you are basically throwing out your money. |

![]() Stock ECU will advance timing to benefit from up to 95 octane. Any higher is a waste. And no, you won't notice a difference.
I'm assuming you live near Kennedale? |

![]() You could add a little to make sure you're not getting any knock and pulling timing. Ideally you would do this a few days before the track and reset your ECU to clear the FLKC table and give the car some time to bring IAM back up. Other than raising the octane a bit to clear out any knock, no it won't help.

![]() To speedette, you would have to do an ecu reset first, even after that it most likely wouldn't make much of a difference . There is nothing on our cars that can read the octane of the fuel in the tank.
Like what eggroll said basically |
