All Ford has to do is adopt something like the Emission-less Hydrogen 5 liter, 8 cyl, 455bhp new engine block designed by Toyota and Yamaha and the Muscle car will remain alive. Will they do so? Nawh, theyre going to cash out of Lithium fad until the public proves that the strain on the powergrid is too much, thus forcing companies to go back to a combustion set up. Infrastructure is behind for how much load the inner cities already put on the grids.

Hydrogen generation will put an even higher load on the grid. But don't concern yourself with facts, just keep on that fake news train.

Not out a of a Hydrogen combustion based engine. Jeez why does everyone think EV each time. But go ahead and keep belittling people passive aggressively for some random Friday reason?

Hydrogen GENERATION. The act of separating hydrogen and storing is inefficient. It takes nearly twice as much energy to create as it puts out. That will stress the electricity grid. I don't care if it's combustion or a fuel cell.

Hydrogen creation (separation) is very, very energy intensive. Without Nuclear power, it's a non-starter, unfortunately.

Some cool "easter eggs" pointed out in this video (rear window, and "Fox body style" selectable dash graphics for example. That Dark Horse badge is mean.

I am not a fan of the styling, although I wasn't a huge fan of the S550 styling, I guess I'll hold final judgement until I see one in person and when full specs are revealed.

2024 Ford Mustang Unveiled With New Looks, V8 Power And Jet-Inspired Cockpit

Quote:

The seventh-generation Ford Mustang storms Detroit and it is better than ever.
Over the past couple of weeks, Ford has shifted focus to the launch of the seventh-generation (internal codename S650) Mustang, teasing us with glimpses of new design elements and short clips of the V8 engine. We've also been treated to the noise of the new GT3 racer, but that's not important right now.
What does matter is that the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang has finally been revealed, and it's better than ever. CEO Jim Farley says that "investing in another generation of Mustang is a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the business of internal combustion engines." But can it live up to the hype?

Some will take issue with the styling, some will be besotted. Regardless of how it looks, it comes with two combustion engine choices, the option of an automatic or manual transmission, and a lot more tech. Let's see if it was worth the wait.
Most Powerful Coyote Ever

The Mustang GT comes with the most powerful naturally aspirated iteration of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, which is now in its fourth generation. Ford says this will be the most powerful 5.0 yet, with at least 480 horsepower. The motor features "an innovative dual air intake box and dual-throttle body design that helps minimize induction loss" by increasing air flow rates. At the reveal event, Ford also revealed a new Dark Horse model with 500 hp and the Tremec manual from the GT350 and Mach 1.

As standard, this is paired with a six-speed manual transmission with standard rev-matching, although you can have Ford's 10-speed automatic if you prefer. This can almost instantly reconfigure shift patterns to match whichever of the six pre-configured drive modes you may be in. The 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost that non-GT customers get is also new but like the GT, power output remains a mystery.

New Remote Rev Feature

Both GT and EcoBoost variants can be had with an optional Performance Pack, adding a front tower brace, wider rear wheels and tires, a Torsen limited-slip differential, optional MagneRide active suspension, and bigger brakes from Brembo. In front, the discs measure 390 millimeters, while the rears are upgraded to 355-mm units. With the GT Performance Pack, stopping power is further bolstered by new brake ducts and a standard auxiliary engine cooler. The Performance Pack can be further improved with optional Recaro sport seats and an active exhaust system.

Another cool feature of the package is the standard electronic drift brake, which looks and acts like a traditional, mechanical handbrake. There's also a new Remote Rev feature that allows you to rev the car from the key fob, standard on all 'Stangs. Hoodrat car meets are about to get a lot more sketchy.

New Classy Cockpit

Inside, the car now has a customizable 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D animation software courtesy of Unreal Engine. Instead of traditional cool blue and light grey tones, this now has a copper appearance theme like that of the Mustang Mach-E. This display flows toward a 13.2-inch SYNC 4 center screen angled toward the driver, from which you can control just about everything, including the ambient lighting. A single piece of glass connecting the two adds a touch of class. Above your head, new USB ports have been added for your GoPro and any other track-related tech you may wish to aim at the hood.

As standard, cloth upholstery with optional Micro Suede vinyl inserts and black seat belts are fitted, but Premium models are upgraded with accent stitching. EcoBoost variants get the brand's ActiveX faux leather with various color options, and GT models get leather seat inserts. The more you spend, the better your cabin. A full-leather steering wheel is available, as is your choice of color for the accent stitching and the colored asymmetric striping on the seat belts. A Bang & Olufsen audio setup is also available if you tire of the noises of internal combustion, while Power-Up software updates will keep the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa-equipped infotainment system as fresh as possible.

Ford CoPilot360 driver aids include Speed Sign Recognition, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering Assist, Evasive Steer Assist, and Reverse Brake Assist. Active Pothole Mitigation, which "continually monitors suspension, body, steering braking input," is standard with the Performance Pack, adjusting suspension as needed.
Unique Front End For Every Model

Now for the looks. Ford calls this an "edgier design with timeless Mustang cues," and we're getting a lot of different vibes here. There are hints of 1970s Mustang in the angular front fascia, and the shape seems to incorporate some of the Fox body 'Stang's silhouette. The influence of the preceding sixth-generation Mustang still shows, however, which has us feeling a little letdown. The rear end also keeps reminding us of the Hyundai Elantra N's derriere. Sorry, Jim.
Nevertheless, the styling is not as important as the design. New tri-bar LED headlights are a cool touch that seems to have been inspired by the iconic triple taillights that have been a mainstay of Mustang design for generations. Notably, each model of the Mustang now has a truly unique front end. GT models naturally get larger, more aggressive grille openings for better airflow. New hood vents and a redesigned front splitter are also included.

The convertible version also returns with a one-touch activation of the insulated soft top. A single-handle center latch makes things simple, and a compact design helps maximize the space by not encroaching too much on the trunk. The independent rear suspension also contributes to "segment-leading trunk space that can accommodate up to two golf bags."

11 colors are on offer, with two new shades: Vapor Blue and Yellow Splash. New stripe designs and colors will complement these, and the Brembo brake calipers can be optioned in Black, Red, or Grabber Blue. New wheels are available, too, starting at 17 inches on base models to 19-inch wheels on the GT. This variant also gets access to optional 20-inch rims.

A new Mustang Design Series adds preselected customization from the factory. The Bronze Desing Series Appearance Package is the only offering right now and gives you Sinister Bronze alloys with bronze badges. This is available for both EcoBoost and GT models.
Ford Has Another Hit On Its Hands

With a "jet-inspired digital cockpit," that includes roof-mounted USB ports, Ford is clearly listening to the demands of its buyers. The same can be said for the electronic drift brake and the Remote Rev function. These are the things that Mustang buyers want, and we suspect that this will be a huge sales success once again. Sure, the styling will take some time to grow on some people, but it's not overly fussy and does a good job of modernizing a basic shape that has been around for almost 60 years now. We can't wait to see it in the metal.
As for pricing and availability, that information has not yet been revealed.

Looks the same. Interior is better minus the Hyundai screen that seems out of place.

Very much a trend right now of manufacturers NOT doing a whole new chassis and just updating the old chassis... Obviously due to the EV changeover.

Not digging the new look. For some reason, it looks like a love child from a Camaro and Mustang.

I had a similar thought when I first saw it; very Camaro inspired looking Mustang.

The wheel flares on the S650 got bigger/wider compared to the S550, so the rear quarter now looks very Camaro, so does the side profile.
Headlights got shorter and more rectangular, which reminds me of the current Camaro headlights as well.
Taillights/rear and front grills look mustang, but yeah, a lot of Camaro-esque design cues, whether intentional or not.

Also the wing is just ugly, I'm not a fan of the matte plastic on the front, rear and sideskirts on the GT, I'd understand them on the ecoboost where the target demographic is primarily buying the mustang name... But for most GT & upper trim owners it's a second vehicle, I don't know why they would put matte on it other than to save production costs, unless they are trying to steal VB WRX sales or something.

The center stack area where the AC vents are does look a bit Fox bodyish. Apparently the digital dash also has a mode where it makes the gauges look exactly like the ones from the Fox bodies.

will have to see the interior I suppose. It would be great if Ford made a new sports car. I mean keep the mustang, but something to slot beneath it. I guess the Mach-E could be that, but not really.

Ford and Chevy are kind of light on fun sporty cars. But if that is what the market wants them to make...guess the people have talked.

I heard there's a feature where the driver can turn the digital dash into layout with a fox body-ese look.

Larger than a Camaro, LMAO, nah.

Then I saw the screens on the interior, oh my. This is supposed to be a drivers car, the GT at least and look at those got damn screens. Are you buying this thing to drive it or stream Disney+ content?

It's just like the Golf R. Hey still 100% ICE but the interior we've already changed for EV. Um, ok.

It looks clean. I'm a fan so far.

I like good screens. No idiotic vertical screen with a boomer knob, hooray! Ford could have easily used the Mach-E's failures as an excuse to really screw up the new Mustang. I'll need to see some more in-depth usability reviews. With the right switch gear and UI it can be great.. but if they screwed it up (ie VW) it's going to suuuuck.

I'm glad to see Ford abandoning some of the legacy styling. The current car is still using lines and styling cues made to remind you of the 1960s.. that damn base model trunk roundel, the crease lines made to remind you of old stamped chrome accents.. ugh. It's a caricature of itself.

Ford confirmed yesterday that the ecoboost will only be available with the 10AT, no manual transmission.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/2024-f...l-transmission

Quote:
The 2024 Ford Mustang has finally been revealed, and while its competitors are staring down the barrel of electrification, the seventh-generation pony car will still feature internal combustion. It'll even keep the manual transmission, but in order to get it, you'll need to pay for the V8 Mustang GT. That's because Ford is ditching the stick-shift in its entry-level four-cylinder models.

A Ford spokesperson confirmed this news to The Drive on Thursday. That means buyers who choose Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost will be limited to the 10-speed automatic only.

"If customers want a manual, we have it available with the GT and its new Gen IV 5.0-liter Coyote V8," the Ford spokesperson told me. Another representative elaborated, "Mustang EcoBoost customers will still be able to use available paddle shifters to manually shift the EcoBoost's 10-speed transmission."

Presently, the six-speed manual is standard on both the EcoBoost and V8-equipped S650 Mustang. Buyers who opt for the 10-speed automatic pay a $1,595 upgrade fee, regardless of engine choice. This time around, however, EcoBoost buyers won't be given a choice to "upgrade" their gearbox.

As you might imagine, the reason for the change comes down to take rate. Simply put, the vast majority of EcoBoost buyers sprung for the automatic transmission in the sixth-gen Mustang, which led Ford to cut the manual in four-cylinder examples.

"In the current Mustang, approximately 10 percent of EcoBoost customers opt for a manual transmission compared to approximately 40 percent for the 5.0-liter V8," Ford told The Drive.

A manual take rate of just 10 percent on an enthusiast-focused car is extremely low. For comparison, less than 20 percent of C7 Chevy Corvette buyers opted for the manual, which undoubtedly played a part in General Motors deciding to make the C8 auto only.

But unlike the C8's need for an all-new transmission, the Mustang already has a recently revised manual gearbox-the Getrag-sourced MT82-D4 six-speed-that Ford could carry forward from the S550. Ford told The Drive that the EcoBoost and V8s in the seventh-gen Mustangs utilize, at minimum, different bellhousings. Given the historically low sales volume for a manual-equipped turbo-four Mustang, it may save money on both the casting of new bellhousings exclusively for the EcoBoost as well as assembly costs. It's not immediately clear if the gearbox will indeed be used in the new S650, but if it is, the decision to decouple the manual transmission from the EcoBoost solely for take rate might upset a few more folks than if there were a technical explainer behind it.

Updated at 1:15 p.m. ET on 09/16/2022: Ford informed The Drive that the 2024 Mustang's EcoBoost and V8 engines do not share transmission bellhousings.

At this point, its just a Modern-day S-15 Silvia with a V8 and im all for it. "If it's not broken why fix it" makes a good amount of sense as far as keeping the mustang within those current mustang prices. Car and driver clicked through the head-unit, and everything was responsive as hell. I think they did a great job. Styling is very Cyberpunk-ish and will no doubt be a grand rendition for the final goodbye of the ICE Mustang.... Unless they do this
