Default 2006 STi, how much space can I open between trunk and rear seat?

I need to temporarily transport some boxes that are larger than will fit in the rear seat or through the armrest hole. I watched a video on rear seat removal, and removing the seat itself is easy, but it then looks like there are still panels covering most of the space. Are those welded in, or bolted in? If bolted, I can probably just remove them for a few hours and then reinstall.

(I'd go check myself, but it'll be a few days before I'm around my car again)

The fiber board panel behind the seat back can be removed. I have about 16" x 30" opening. With the passenger seat removed there is about 9 feet of length.
