ATTN: proecm, Powerchip + SAFC = tuning question.
First off, I only want answers here.
Anyone who thinks or wants to prove the chip doesnt work, please go away. I know the chip has improved my performance, how does it do it? (my guess: black magic) I dont know and I dont care, I paid for a product, it works. Thats all. One of the few mods ive actually noticed a differnce with. Enough Said. What I want to know, and hopefully proecm will answer me here, because they are the only ones who really know. (if I knew how the chip worked then I could answer my own q's, but since I don't, and don't blame proecm for not telling me, I hope you will answer my q's) #1 how long should I wait before I tune my SAFC. #2 what grade fuel should I be using with your chip. 2 simple questions, I dont want to know how your chip works, just how to make the most of it. If you need any info from me about my car please feel free to ask, and or pm me, answers, questions etc. Any other information you could provide me towards making the most of the chip will be much appreciated. Ill ask again, Please dont turn this thread into a debate weather or not the chip works. If you do I will ask the mods to delete any post that does not pertain to the thread. Thanks in advance, like I said, if proecm would rather do this over pms or email thats fine, I just need some answers as soon as possible. Jay McDade Lincoln/Mercury/Jaguar Tech

Also, I know many others have the same questions, about the safc/powerchip harmony, Thats why I posted this.
Ive searched through countless threads of bickering and whining and have come up with nothing but a headache searching for one little tid bit of technical information about this subject. Jay |

>#1 how long should I wait before I tune my SAFC.
I would give it a day or two (depending on how much you drive) just to be sure the system has settled, so that your settings will yield more consistent results. >#2 what grade fuel should I be using with your chip. I would encourage you to use as high octane as you can find. Here in Colorado I always use 91. If you put the powerchip in between the SAFC and the ECU, you will eliminate the CEL that occurs if you turn up the SAFC too much. Simply because the MAP voltage clamp will clamp it. I have not personally tried to tune a car with both the powerchip and the SAFC in it. That being said, I know there are several customers out there that are successfully running this setup. /David |

thanks David.
high test in jersey is 93 , thats what I put in prior to the chip install. I didnt hook up the map wires for the proecm, because I will use the safc to adjust the fuel. Does that sound right? Jay |

That's the only reason I'm reluctant to get the powerchip... I do NOT want to pay $1.75 a gallon for gas! Stupid economy!
Those questions do clear up some things I was wondering though, thanks. |

bugbomb good point, I read that, but if *wanted* to hook those wires up you could use the turn screw to adjust the map signal, to lean or richen the fuel mixture.
btw...high test in jersey, is right around 1.50, and as we all know jersey is not self serve....go figure Jay |

I've never had the CE light come one by boosting your COR up too high. To low, yeah. Then again, I'm in a 1.8l.
What really helped me with the S-AFC tuning was a a/f meter. Then you can see how rich or lean you're running. it's not exact, but neither is the voltage running from your 02 sensor. It gives you a great idea of where to map your fuel with the AFC. My car runs MAD smooth after the a/f meter install (last week). Oh, and the autometer gauge pods FIT. I was surprised. |
