Default Need help with some windows "issues".

I know there are a ton of system admin/IT guys in here so hopefully someone can help. I picked up an Eee PC week. I've already put windows "fundamentals" on it. It will run full blown XP or Tiny XP or any of the nlite XPs you want to make. I went with fundamentals because it's microsoft's stripped OS for "legacy computers". It takes a mere 604mb of disk space and will run taking less than 128mb or RAM. It also loads in <20 seconds on the Eee when on a network and slightly faster when not on a network... So it's bare bone and fast which is perfect for what I need.

I already have the Eee doing everything I need, now I'm working on my wants...
They've stripped anything not needed out of this windows (including taskmanager ) I've been able to find everything EXCEPT the "game controllers" in the control panel. Any idea on which files these might be and where they might be found? So far anything I've needed I can just copy and past out of the system32 folder on my desktop (which is also XP) and they work... So I just need to know where these files are to give it a shot... I'm trying to get NESticle to work with my retropad...

CNs:Need to know what files I need for the "game controllers" portion of the control panel in XP.

Hang on a second... you put windows on the eeeeeePC? And now you're trying to get a gamepad to work so you can use emulation?

Dude, I could have saved you $230.

The last thing I would have done is stripped linux off of that thing.

realistically you should be running Win 2k on it if you want to run win.*

you'll be able to run a full blown install fine on it and you'll keep all your "XP" compatibilities

I bought this for internet with a full fledged computer and photoshop on the road. I already have nesDS running on my DS with all the games I want, I just think it will be something fun to have on it. Also

in <10 minutes you can very easily go right back to a stock install on the linux. They've done a great job with making a cheap real computer that you can mess around with and not **** it up. Plus getting all these games to run on a PSP is not exactly easy. I have a modded PSP and that thing is a real PITA to deal with... The DS handles NES emulation MUCH better, and so far the Eee PC is even better except for the game pad issue.

At any rate, what you're asking about isn't really a "windows issue".

P.S. Any stripped version of windows that doesn't include taskman is a piece of ****. I've seen smaller "lite" installs out there that clock in a lot smaller than 600MB and include most everything you need. Unfortunately, I can't remember their damn names.

I've been digging around a bit in the system32 folder:
joy.cpl
vjoy.dll

are both involved. If I double click joy.cpl on my desktop it opens the control panel I'm after. I copied it over to the Eee and it won't open the panel... So I'm still missing something... I wonder what?

<shot in the dark>

you may have to register that vjoy.dll

copy the .dll file to winnt\system32 and then

start -> run -> cmd -> cd\winnt\system32 -> regsvr32 vjoy.dll

if you get an error then obviously thats not it, and thats about all i could think of sorry

I would probably just stop muddling around with it and go out and download a different stripped distro.

There are stripped gaming-oriented versions of xp out there.

I think I'm going to retry this windows tonight, then go to tinyXP next... This didn't even do directX or taskmanager but it can so I missed stuff with it's "basic" install...
