Scotty.
Read through the first 10pgs not doing all 273 right now on the mobile. Did you swap to heavyweight to increase change intervals or was the lightweight still to slick? Been running straight lightweight for the last ~35k w/o any complaints on a tranny w 140k.

im going to be using ~50k mile trans lube change intervals(up from 20k) and it likely can go a lot longer under more casual use no reason to use something that is gonna wear out if you can use something that wont....right??? i have found NOTHING that leads me to believe that the lightweight shockproof should be used AT ALL, if the heavyweight is available i wont be using the lightweight again |

I appreciate that the OP has been updated with new findings regarding the cocktail. Ive been running it for years, and its never done me wrong.
Also appreciate the typical nasioc banter found on the preceeding pages. Though it seems that the newer groups are getting worse and worse. |

I've read through most of the thread. Thanks Scotty for the mix. I've located redline heavyweight shockproof and syncromesh but I'm having problems finding the castrol 80w-90 gear oil close to me.
Does anyone know anywhere besides amazon (12pk 2week wait), oreilly's (nowhere near me), or pepboys (an hour away) where I can get this stuff? I found one bottle on ebay... but I need two.. |

Scotty's cocktail (confusion)
I am just about to change the oil in my trans and accessed the site to find the . quantities. I purchased all of the ingredients about a year ago and find that I have the Redline Lightweight shockproof. I was sure it was right at the time. Reading several forums in here I see that a lot of owners are using the lightweight. However the answer and instructions to the question very clearly state the use of the heavyweight oil. Help, which one is it?
Thanks, Rick |

Hey Scotty, is Grimmspeed referring to your cocktail here?
grimmspeed edit: i think... that's the old version, with lightweight shockproof instead of heavyweight, is that correct? I'd like to try the cocktail in my 5mt ('03, 70k miles). Thanks in advance Last edited by MoRex; 06-04-2013 at 07:14 PM. |

Has anyone had any luck at all finding the redline heavy anywhere brick and mortar in NYS? Or should I just order it online and wait?

Just changed to the cocktail @ 274,000 miles on a '04 wrx wagon. Dino 75w90 before. Solved the 4th gear grind that was getting annoying and the shifting in general is just better. Getting into reverse still takes some coaxing sometimes, but it too has become better, just not solved.
