JDM STi Swap ?'s
Hey guys I have a 99 LGT and I'm in the process of ordering a full swap and I just had a few questions on which STI version would be the best. I can't afford to do a version 6+ so with the earlier versions which one is the best, as is block internals and heads etc. I heard that the version 5 has forged pistons. Is this true? Also what usdm parts will bolt to these engines? Looking at installing a clutch upgrade, exhaust manifold/turbo and fuel rails with larger injectors so would the 02-07 Wrx parts bolt rigjt on? Also what are you guys with these engines using for tuning? I really want to run e85 because I do in ky Supra and I love it. I would like to go full standalone but I'm not sure there's a PnP like on my Supra.
Any info or links about what I'm looking for is greatly appreciated. Thx. |

Forgot somethings, if I need any gaskets or oil seals which USDM model would I order for? I believe since this is a 2.0ltr block then I would think that the 02-07 Wrx stuff would work? Also, if I were to upgrade the internals say the rods would the wrx parts work for this as well? Thx for any help.

V5 and v6 Sti are the same. You can buy usdm WRX parts to fit on it. Seeing that it's a 2.0L

If you can't afford to do a ver5+, don't do a swap.

Second this. As your car is a 99, you want to do at least a ver 5/6.
Sadly so many people just grab something cheap because it is all they can afford and it turns out to be NOT what they wanted. SAVE UP and do it right the first time. You might be better off finding a wrecked USDM STI or WRX and using that as your starting point, as the tuning options are a lot better than the JDM cars ( as least for us in the US) That and you can sometimes re-coup some of the funds by selling parts off the car. |

I picked up a wrecked 02 wrx for 2800, and used the drivetrain, interior(dash) and all the wiring in my 1997 OBS. Sold what I didnt use(engine, seats, doors etc) for 4200$. Then bought a V8 ej207, and cant be happier. |
