My tuner and i decided to go with a ERL sleeved shortblock with manley rods, cp pistons, and a compression of 9:1 for e85.

Just curious, has there been several motors in this car? I swear I remember an old owner of this car and he sold it. Due to a broken rod I think. Not sure if it was from a bad tune or what.

Not sure if it was from a bad tune or what.[/quoteIm the third owner of the vehicle, the first guy put the 35r kit on the stock motor and ended up blowing it up. He then sold it to the second owner because he didnt have the funds to fix it. the second guy thought he would only have like 3k in the new motor for some reason and put the car up for sale after having to put 9k into the motor. So when i got the car i started perfecting the build on it and when i got it to where i liked it a vacuum line popped off while i was wot and it went way lean causing the motor to have low compression in two cylinders. So this is where i am at now throwing a sleeved shortblock in it and building the heads.

Bummer on the low compression. ERL makes some good stuff, good luck on the build!

little update on whats going on with the build. decided against the erl shortblock as I would have been waiting even longer than I already am. so far all of my internals have arrived. I went with darton sleeves, using my eagle rods, 100mm cp pistons with 9:1 compression for e85, gscs2 cams, retainers, springs, valves, doing a perrin big tube equal length header, upgrading the fuel pump from 400lph to a 450lph. that's a general outline of the build so far, they did a light port job on the heads as well. my tuner thinks we will have no problem hitting high 500s to the wheels. the block should be back tomorrow from being machined. More updates to come!

Nice build coming along...don't take it the wrong way but since you went all out with sleeves and aiming for 500+ I would look into a better rod than eagle for that high hp like manley turbo tuffs, pauters or carillos just to name a few

no offense taken man, I had a lengthy discussion with my tuner about this. he was on the phone with eagle for awhile discussing what the rods can take. they are rated at 600whp at 9k rpms. we will not be revving it nearly that high. my tuner is very confident in these rods.

No help because the motor was not built by this shop, I got the car in north carolina and the motor was built by 42 autosports. The machine work on this motor is being done by one of the instructors at unoh. He does all of the subies and lambo's for covert.

I am looking at a rev range to 7500-8000rpm or stock STI EJ207 Rev Limit. Last edited by west_minist; 01-24-2014 at 04:23 PM. |

I'm feeling so. Weak point is the tranny. Im just looking at what GSC states for s3, while kelford states less.

Do you have any graphs of that? I know the gsc s3 is 282/282.
GSC S3 Intake 282/282 11.3mm/11.3mm Lift Kelford D 280/278 Duration, 11.55mm/11.00mm Lift But for this engine, the GSC S2 and the Kelford C cams are appropriate. It just boils down to which one. The Kelford have more lift but the duration on the exhaust is less. GSC S2 Intake 272 / 230 @ .040" / Peak Lift 10.7MM / Centerline AVCS Exhaust 272 / 228 @ .040" / Peak Lift 10.4MM / Centerline AVCS Kelford C Intake 272 / 232 @ .040" / Peak Lift 11.50MM / Centerline AVCS Exhaust 268 / 228 @ .040" / Peak Lift 10.7MM / Centerline AVCS Last edited by west_minist; 01-25-2014 at 12:41 AM. |

Ok I understand. I dont have a liken for AEM.
I feel the Kelford C can slightly out perform the GSC S2, but not sure. But I am leaning toward GSC, but Kelford have good history. |
