I have a set of Karboy bushings that I planned to install on the stock shifter linkage but now can get the Subaru short shifter really cheap. Should I still install the Kartboy bushings with the short throw shifter?

the bushings and the shifter will work together fine. They don't even touch each other, so compatability is a non-issue.

Install both at the same time and the change will be more dramatic. Great mods.

Well, that's not entirely true... the bushings don't touch the shifter stick, but they do touch the linkage..

I have this combo and it works nicely together. Be aware that the shifter will be much tighter and notchier than your stock one so make sure this is what you want. I like it and so do many others but not everyone does.

I got the same setup and love it. Nice and tight. Now just have to put my redline shockproof lightweight in and be good to go.

It sounds like the Kartboy bushings do add something to the Subaru SS setup. I'll go ahead with both.

I also have the STi short shifter with the Kartboy bushings and LOVE the new feel. I dare say it's perfect. It's slightly more notchy, but without the vague "rickety" feel I got in stock form, and the shifts really schlock (for lack of a better sound) in nicely.

It gets even better if you remove the pivot ball from the end of the lever and glue it back in place, because there is actually some fore-aft play in it. I just did this to mine last weekend, along with greasing and tightening the center pivot bolt/bushing and it feels even nicer than before. And, the third-gear rattle is completely gone.
