Default Tell the doctor to leave the skin sack on

I adopted a cat at the animal control office today and while I'm filling out the paperwork the guy in the next line is talking to the staff person about adopting a dog. It's mandatory to get pets neutered, so his dog needs to be scheduled for the vet to be castrated. He starts a real long conversation, which quickly involves some of the public who are standing in line behind, asking them to leave the nutsack intack so the dog will feel like he still has something left. Staff says they think the vet pretty much takes the whole thing off but the guy is adamant - he wants the dog to feel good about himself so please leave the nutsack. Finally he appeals to the clerk in my line, who is apparenty the head person in charge. She gives him a real long stare and you can tell she has a bunch of thoughts she wants to share with the guy but she regains her composure and says something like the dog won't know the difference between no nuts and no nutsack or no nuts but retained (empty) nutsack. At this point the other folks in line start chiming in about how much better it is to leave the nutsack intact and that's the way their vet does it, etc. So they wrote instructions down on the form to "leave the skin sack".

I was worried that the whole day would go by and I wouldn't read a single post about a dog's nutsack.

People are idiots. Regardless of instructions, I doubt any vet is going to leave an empty sack of flesh hanging down there, it's asking for trouble down the road. I think the sack tends to shrink up and all but disappear over time once it is "emptied out" anyway, at least with younger dogs.

you can get prosthetic testicles for your dog so it won't feel "bad" about it's lack of nuts. Why anyone would want to do that is beyond me

I've also heard of owners opting for Vasectomy thus the dog is sterile but still has his natural pair down there to show off to all the bitches.

Why can't a human-type vasectomy become the standard ?
