Default Thinking of getting a 1911? Here's the deal of the decade

Caspian Arms used to provide Sig with the slides and frames for their top-notch 1911. They have parted ways, and Caspian has a sale on the stainless slides, frames and assorted parts...

http://caspianarms.com/

Will require some minor gunsmithing, but you'll end up with a great gun at a fraction of the cost of the Sig.

Good gun, overpriced. The first generations were much better than they're making today.

Good luck finding a Kimber with these features for the same price. It's rumored that Kimber will be supplying Sig with frames and slides, and that the quality is noticably inferior.

Does it make big holes in things (alteza's, posters of keith)? if so, I approve.

Same deal.

I have a Sig GSR and it's crazy accurate right out the box.
Having a second Caspian branded twin would be kewl and I'd send it to Sig for Nitron coating.
Problem is I can't justify the expense of it, to myself.
Especially considering I just bought two more 1911's.

SubEd gave me the heads up several weeks ago and then two weeks later news of this hit SigForums.com and 1911.org with a splash.
Throw in a barrel and you have a GSR new for roughly 75% the new SigArms price. Worst Sig increased their MSRP rates across the board in Febraury. Dealers still have '04 GSR's in stock on clearance but those are going fast. The '05's now cost as much as a Springfield TLE (!), both which are IMHO over priced by 10% or so.
But then prices are what the market will bear.

Anyway yeah this is a good deal.
I got lucky and found a brand new GSR used with 100 rds. throughout fresh from Sig purchased from a guy who was going on his third return.
This one minus a few factory required repairs & tweaks has been as they used to say the business.
With a proper build by a proper gunsmith these things shoot and are reliable to boot.

Good informational post!

A credit card and a phone to call Caspian.

Beyond that basic mechanical skill to assemble and hand fit individual pieces, or means to afford a gunsmiths fees which do vary.

The package is sold as an unassembled kit of hardware minus the barrel and grips.
Purchase the barrel elsewhere (i.e. BarSto) and pick up grips of your preferance then you have all the pieces necessary to build up a fine ass .45 on the cheap.
