More progress on my TGV's and intake manifold. It's still a work in progress but I'm over the halfway hump. It's a tough row in uncharted territory. EDIT: Do NOT do this. It failed on me after only 6 miles.

Gasket? Bin that, Son! JB Weld.

No Gaskets. Using Carroll Smith's tricks to align the two parts (the 1/8" drill bits)

No hardware (0.1 kg for L & R side) means weight loss. JDM STi V8 intake manifold doesn't need the port to port bridge. I don't need it.

Not gonna use the hardware, so I don't need the tabs. Bring on the Hate. Betting it all on JB Weld. EDIT: Bet Called and Lost.

dry ice does the same thing, and is cheaper as you can move the dry ice around as you break out the tar. doesnt take much at all.

vicious,
I'm sure it will add up to more than 2kg and he keeps records of everything so you might want to start wearing sandals. Now whether all his efforts are worth the saving well that's a personal thing.

I fail to see how wasting all that time to save what 10 lbs or so is worth it. Add more power and you're ahead of where you were going to be. 10 lbs is nothing, you won't feel it. Yes I'm sure I'll hear the "it adds up" argument but come on, really it's not worth it. Bang out the big weight savers and call it a day. Everything beyond that is just plain stupid.

It adds up....for a race car. Some of these guys have that goal, some of them just want to feel like they have a race car.

Still pretty stupid. And someone who actually has a race car has certain requirements to meet as well as it's not always the fastest car that wins but who the better driver is. So the race car argument one isn't really a valid one.

Now that's not very nice. I'm all for weight savings but as I stated shaving intake manifolds, clips, and messing with small things that might only add up to 10 lbs is stupid and a waste of time. I'm sorry if you're one of these people but still won't change my view.

sauce helps.

doesn't change my position though, all that effort, decrease of safety/increase that a component fails, lack of reversibility, lack of practicality etc etc all for less than 5kg?

if you went to work for the amount of time you've spent doing all that i'm sure you'd have enough extra coin to buy some aftermarket product that saves more than 5kg...

I'm sorry you must be lost, this is the 'weight reduction' thread. For people who want to reduce the weight on their car. The 'douchebag running their mouth' thread is in another forum.

There are some people on nasioc who work on their cars because they LIKE working on their cars, not just because they want teh f4stest subroru with all the hottest carbon fibre parts.

I'd rather make something myself than buy an aftermarket part any day of the week. Any idiot can hand his credit card over to a shop and get them to work on their car.

At the end of the day though, we don't need to justify our actions to you. I removed my heater assembly yesterday. Know why? Cuz screw you, that's why.
