Question Who makes the stock 2003 WRX stereo?

My husband wants me to ask if anyone knows which manufacturer makes the stock 2003 WRX stereo? He thinks Infinitiy and I think Clarion. Has anyone pulled it out and noticed who makes it? All I care about though is it sounds excellent!

Im pretty sure its not infinity.. to my knowledge they dont manufacture components, just loudspeakers.. clarion would be a safe bet, but I forget what mine read, as I ripped it out the day i got the car.

Infinity does make headunits, my sister has a whole Infinity stock setup in her Hyundai.

The 02 WRX stereo is by either Matshu****a (Panasonic) or maybe Clarion.

I'm almost 100% that it's a Panasonic. About a 9mo or year ago somone posted pics of a Panasonic head that was damn near exact to the doubl-din 6-disc that comes in the '02+ Imprezas

Jeremy

I don't think Infinity makes head units, just overpriced speakers. They have however had their name on a few factory systems in the past (chrystler to name one).

Thumbs up O.K.

I meant to say my husband thinks it's an Alpine and I think it's by Clarion. He has Infinity speakers and that threw me off. Sory for the confusion. The panansonic head unit in our 2002 GT stinks compared to the clarity and superior sound of this one, so it makes us think it can not be a panasonic.

I'm pretty sure the head unit says Matsu****a (aka Panasonic) on it, and Drew from City Car Radio in San Francisco concurs.

The original RS single DIN unit is Clarion, but yeah, the WRX 6 disc changer double DIN unit, i have one out of the car sitting in a box right now and i'm looking at it and it says:

Manufactured by Matsu****a Communication Industrial Co., Ltd.
Samutprakarn Thailand Made in Thailand

if thats Panasonic, i have no idea.

Smile thank you!

Thanks for the information. They sure improved the Panasonic over the double din that comes in the 2002 GT's! We really like our stereo. Now to find the perfect speakers for it...

No my husband bought an Alpine stereo for his along with Infinity speakers, subwoofer and amplifier all at a huge expense and it still does not sound better then the stock WRX stereo with stock paper speakers!

Infinity is a brand of Harmon. They also make Harman Kardon, JBL, and others.
