Does this sound bass ackwards to anyone else? Not that I'm not glad you've got decent pressure, but the logic doesn't make any sense.
Seems like it would be the reverse but maybe there is another factor with the oils that isn't being considered. Either that or a bad batch of 15/40

Maybe someone should offer to pay for him to run the 15/40 again for a short time, just to verify? Unless someone else added the oil and used 0/20 I'm not sure how he could have mistaken the oil used.

I never run shell, quaker state, royal purple, etc. I've used castrol and valvoline since my first vehicle and never have had a spun bearing or low pressure issues. Those two brands seem to have had good quality control over my driving life.

All too often people ignore the suction pressure as a function of final oil pressure. This is due to the location of our oil pump reliefs and where they get their reference pressure.

What oil pressure does with different oils will depend on what is causing the low or high pressure in the first place. If the clearances are large, then using thinner oil would increase flow through them with a fixed supply flow resulting in lower pressure.

If the oil pressure was low due to a weak relief spring, the thicker oil would cause the relief to lift sooner due to increased suction forces (more negative pressure/vacuum). Lifting thicker and heavier oil from an oil pan creates a lower pressure at the reference point of the relief.

/\ Great point, there almost always another variable that people miss or ignore.

I was about to, I guess I'll stick with a 10mm though.

Since this thread is filled with about all the oiling info you will need I have another question. When you add a large oil cooler with -10 hose does that play a role oil pump size.

No. From the setups we've done and recommended, the pressure drop is typically very very small if it's even gauge measurable at all. Use high quality products and you'll be fine. Also, when you add an aftermarket cooler, remove the OEM cooler. This will help you gain back some losses, and also free up a bit of cooling system capacity.
