02-07 WRX heat shield with clearance for AEM UEGO sensor
Have a Cusco heat shield and ERZ downpipe with a bung just behind the bellmouth. I believe I can use the bung for the UEGO sensor, but doesn't look like there is enough clearance with the heat shield (about 1"). Is there another heat shield that would provide adequate clearance?

Could go with a turbo blanket instead. Mine has been very effective so far,and is very compact.

You could use the SPT heat shield, im using a cobb down pipe with a O2 sensor for the AEM failsafe. I have the SPT heat shield along with the factory heat shield and a turbo blanket.

Oh yea, I am getting a turbo blanket so would like a shield that can fit the blanket underneath as well.
Cool I'll check out the SPT heat shield. Don't have the factory shield anymore but that's cool that you can keep that too. Here it says 06-07 but I don't see any reason it can't fit 04: http://www.rallysportdirect.com/Exhaust-Heat-Shield How about the Cobb? It looks open at the rear also. The Grimmspeed looks like it has a sloped face that will probably get in the way like my Cusco. |

And I'm sitting here trying to figure out if running just a blanket will overheat the turbo. There are a few posts about it ruining seals and bearings. |

Now, is the blanket a possible fire hazard? That's another story. I have a blanket but my TD04 is pretty tired (assuming 170k, i'm not the original owner). My seals aren't completely blown, but they "sweat" some oil so I'm holding onto the blanket for my turbo upgrade. |

Keeping the turbo cool is the job of the coolant that runs through the turbo. The stock heatshield is pretty effective and fits tight to aftermarket turbos. I've run that with a blanket underneath it on an 18G for many miles. You just need to trim away some of the bottom of it so it fits with an aftermarket downpipe. It's really better than most aftermarket heat shields, I don't get why people spend money on new ones when they don't have to. |
