recommend a shop for wheel balancing?
I'm looking for a shop that does wheel balancing very well. Can anyone recommend a place?
I have a new car that's shaking and the dealer doesn't to seem to agree there's a problem. I've taken it in twice - the first time they claimed two of the tires were bad and replaced them along with re-balancing all 4 wheels. The car was better after that but I still feel shaking. Second time, they just road tested it, first by themself then I went out with a (20 years experienced) service guy for almost an hour. The guy claims everything I'm feeling (vibration in the seat at 30-35 and 60-70mph), which he also felt, is from the road not the car. But this fits everything I've always known to be wheel balance or tire problem. The car is a new 2018 Audi A4. Every A4 I test drove since January before buying mine, did not vibrate like this. The conspiracy theorist in me wants to believe the dealer found the other 2 tires marginal and cheaped out by not replacing them. (The car was on the lot for 4 months before I bought it so I suspect the tires got flat-spotted.) Anyway, Can anyone recommend a place?

[8 Years later, the diner was convinced to go back] diner: Do you have any specials tonight? server: We have a fresh mushroom risotto with bla bla bla... diner: Unfortunately I'm allergic to mushrooms, do you have anything else server: Of course, sir! We have changed over the years to better serve our clientele! I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience 8 years ago, but rest assured that when everyone has recommended us this time around, we are ready and willing to serve! Seriously though, you had a bad experience 8 years back. Two of the more senior members on this forum (and moderators) recommend them, and you brush it off? And yes, I realize you have me beat by a year... Best of luck in life holding on to grudges like that. |

^^^ If you had spent over $1000 somewhere, received unsatisfactory service and had to go back multiple times before it was resolved passably, I bet you'd also be reluctant to go back. That's not holding a grudge, that's valuing one's money and time.
If your first post had made it clear that you have positive and more recent (than my) experience with Fasttrack, I'd have taken it at face value. But as it was, your post came across as if you were replying w/o reading the whole thread. As for your "best of luck in life" comment... that's just pointlessly condescending and has zero basis. |

I'm sorry you had a bad experience 8 years ago. Without knowledge of what exactly happened, I'm honestly surprised that Scott let something like that happen, especially the multiple visits to make it better. Usually when there are multiple visits to make something right it's either way more complicated than expected, something went terribly wrong, or the owner is drumming it up to make it sound worse. I don't believe it to be the latter. That all said, it was 8 years ago. Maybe time to give them another chance? Or call them up and talk with the Scott about what happened 8 years ago and what you'd like to have done now. Maybe there's a reason that 8 years ago you had a bad experience and it's worth asking them. Either way, 8 years is a long time to "value one's money and time" just to reject multiple recommendations outright. I do wish you the best of luck, but Fast Track is the place for you. |

^^^ Thank you, I appreciate your reply.
I reviewed my notes from that service (which was Jan 2012, not 2010). In hindsight "terrible" was perhaps too harsh. Frustrating and disappointing would better describe the experience. Ultimately, they did make pretty much everything right but there were oversights that the customer shouldn't have to catch. I can go into details (publicly or privately) or we can leave it at that. FWIW, I originally learned about Fastrack from this forum. Recommendations here were why I was willing to go an hour out of my way to do business with them. If I didn't respect opinions here I wouldn't come back for info. (And I dont even own a Subaru anymore ( but a little bit too.) If Fastrack's quality was hit and miss 6 years ago and they've gotten better since, then kudos to them. If they've been very good all along and my experience was just a fluke, then, honest <thumbs up>. I have an appt on Thurs at a shop closer to home, but if that place falls through and I can't find other options closer to home, Ill reconsider Fastrack. So, thank you again for your (substantiated) recommendation and well wish. Hopefully I can get my issue resolved. Cheers. |

They use roadforce machine. I would suggest you take the car to the dealer and ask them to put the wheels/tires of a car that isnt vibrating. Take that for a spin, and see if its the tires or wheels that are bad. |
